Vey nice! Congrats. I'm going active too. I can't wait for all my stuff to get here.

BTW, do you think it is really worth it having that coustic x over? I am going to try using the amp x overs and my h/u crossovers at first.

I think it is 110% worth it...no way I'd use internal processing...shy of my Eclipse 8053 when I had it.

Plus the coustic is like $50-80 on ebay ;)

I just might be getting an 8454 in the near future, so I'll have to wait and see on that. Thanks for the tip though.

Enough of this thread jacking. Now go install those beasts and let us know how it sounds.

wow, I ran a similar setup!

Tweeters and everything except for I used the active crossover in my headunit. I liked the Vifa tweeters but just did not have the sound that I wanted. I am still looking for a good pair or tweeters to match up with my XXX mids that can take the power! Though Im sure you will like what you get from that setup, hang in there. It will take you a wile to dial in what sounds good for you. I will let you know what I had when I was using that setup:

Sub = down-85hz at 12db slope
mid = 85hz-5k at 18db slope
tweet = 5k- up at 18db slope

or:

Sub = down-85hz at 12db slope
mid = 85hz-4.3k at 18db slope
tweet = 4.3k- up at 24db slope

That should give you an Idea to start with and you can go from there.... I tell ya I did change it alot and tryed alot of combo's. I think you should start at 5k on the tweeter and work down if you can wile increasing the crossover slope to 24db to even 36db if you can, if you can get it low enough. The XXX mids can play all the way up and had no problem at 5k and higher if you need to. But its all up to you how you like it to sound. I wish I could do it over again because It was so fun setting it up the first time! I wish I can find a tweeter I like though, its hard to find a place that will only let me listen to a tweeter for my stage, instead they want me to buy the whole set...

Good luck, and have fun!!

P.S. Nice dead/hot pixels you have there!

Looks excellent :thumbupw:

Did those door pods ever get done (I'm too lazy to follow the link)??

I was going to go crazy with an external active xover (installed) & dual 30-band (not installed yet).....but I'm going to try out the KISS method and try only using the internal features of the 8053 that just arrived at my house yesterday :D So that'll replace my external xover and *hopefully* I won't need the external EQ anymore. I may still run it on my horns though...since I'll only have a 5band parametric to cover 19,000 frequencies :uhoh:

But, regardless...active is FUN :veryhapp: So many adjustments that you can never stop screwing with stuff....LOL

lol...do you actually need that big of an EQ for a car audio system...thats a bit much just for a CA system...maybe for a home audio system...LOL

Those are rack mounts.....they are, essentially, pro sound style EQ/xover that have been slightly redesigned for use in a car.

REQ's gonna have some rediculous SQ when he finally get's done, unless he totally ****s something up. So lay off his magnificently huge EQ's...

its all about physically limiting each frequency to each speaker on your own free whim.

you get to tell what speaker to play what frequencies.

its fantastical :)

An active xover is a crossover that goes in-line before the amplifier. It allows you to adjust the crossover points (and sometimes even slopes) for each speaker yourself, instead of being stuck with the crossover points/slope preselected in the typical passive crossover that comes with most component sets.

you guys with your fancy active setups put my future active setup to shame :(

I guess I'll have to buy a few more items now. Eclipse 8454 should be a nice addition. That should at least put me in the same class as some of you ;)

at least I got more amps than you req :p:
