My new line-level preamp arrived...dual 12AU7's, individual volume controls for each channel, solid-state rectification (will change that as soon as I get a circuit figured out) and various mods. Considering I got it for hundreds less than it usually sells for, it's a bargain :)

oh my...are those electrolytic caps I see in the output section? Better not tell them they don't work :rolleyes:

I've heard that tube amps put out a suprising amount of power. I met a guy in a pawnshop who used a 3 watt tube amp to power a 500 watt pioneer sub and it slammed real hard without blowing the speaker... Although I have nihl of my own experience.
Always curious about new ways to make noise- or in the case of your amp that you just built music....

so jack, where are the schematics so i can build one for myself?
i could put that together if you gimme the product list ;)
i got a pair of folded horn boxes to make for a pair of radioshack speakers and i need an amp for them ;)

If you look at dollars/watt, yeah they are...but overall, they're not too bad. You could easily spend much more on a solid-state setup.

i wouldn't mind having the schematics either. Would make for a nice summer project.

Also do you hapen to have a place to get the tube capacitors from for cheap.
lol. i dont believe there is a 'cheap' way to get these parts, or else they would be 'cheap' to buy :)
but ill take a looksee and find if i can get anything. cuz i got some schematics on a nice 6' pair of folded horns for a pair of 6.5's that im itching to build and i have no amplification for them :D

You mean an electrolytic cap?
And Req - remember, this is only a preamp, not something that will power your main speakers :) You need a power amp for that...

lol tube capacitors, but yes tubes can get expensive if u don't know wtf ur doing...and they are horrendously innefficent unless ur running a low power requiring setup (folded horn, TL)
