Like the topic says, I just want something cheap, in a 6.5" size to put in my truck. They will be run off a 50x2 amp and mounted in the kicks. I listen to a bit of everything, but mostly rock/metal. Here's a few I've found that look alright:
-Alpine Type S
-JL Audio TR
-Infinity Reference
-JBL GTO
Any suggestions?

in that range the alpines if you really are just looking between those but if you are making kicks and if you look at adidas's camery install log andif you can get an angle on your kicks like he did a set of mtx 6000's would work pretty **** good. what it might lack in tonal sound it would more than make up for in price/ ease of setting up and staging (meaning it will put the sound where it should be and not get cluttered).

MTX 6000's you say? How are they priced in comparison to the rest of my list. The list isn't written in stone at all or anything, just thrown together of some speakers I'm familiar with. I'm also looking at Pioneer Revs, as they can be had for a decent price sometimes, and I've always liked their sound.

i seen them for 70ish bucks. im not going to lie to you and say they were totally awesome but they were far far far from bad. the way they go together its just an easy set up with what i would call better than average results. the kicks would be the hard part though

I really like the REVs myself, but I've only seen em for $175-150.... which isnt MY definition of cheap exactly.

I was gonna get some revs, but I liked the JL-VR650csi's a tiny bit more and I finally found em for just under $200, so I got those instead

I just had a set of JBL GTO 5x7 comps go bad within 3 weeks. RF amp at 50w rms per channel. Infinity refs are installed now, they sound a bit better and havent had any probs.

I'd go to infinitecaraudio.com and check out thier DLS stuff. That is what I plan on getting for my sister's car when i do her system next month.

I own the infinity refernce 6000cs and can say they are pretty good for the money but I would lean towards the DLS stuff. The infinities are a little harsh.

I have never like alpine speakers but thats just me.......

Berry47,

What line of DLS do you own? I'm interested in the DLS R6A - 6.5" 2-Way Comp Set. It is not the entry level but also not the top of the line model.

I second the Boston set, though they like power.

I'd also look into Eclipse's components, they sounded fairly decent to me.

I don't own any DLS currently....

I might put them in my sister's car...

I own the infinity's and they are all right.

I have a set of MB quart discus series comps that I got new on ebay for 100.00 shipped.
I think that they sound really good for that kind of money. I doent think you could go wrong.

:iagree: I'm feeding mine with 70 watts each and althought they sound great I think I will be upgrading into something 125-150 watts, to really make them shine. :up2somet:

for entry level components I would mess with *I know it sounds funny* but the DB Speed Series Components, they have well made x0vers, not to bright tweeters, which your going to find with the Infinity reference... the 6.5 inch are only like $200 - $250

When I was in the search for my components I heard those DB Series (DB DRIVE WRIGHT!), and they are not that bad, but they cost almost the same as the Boston which sounded a lot better to me.

BTW never heard any comments on DB DRIVE stuff in here.

The DB stuff isn't that great for the money. My buddy had one of the subs and it isn't that good.

I like my subs a lot. 450 a pair, handle 1500 rms easy a piece, sound **** fine to me and I've never had anyone tell me otherwise (although I'm sure there are people in this board who could). Having said that, just bought a 15 xxx to replace them (c'mon, it's a xxx). I also know a guy who has 2 PL12d4 in a ported box in his sentra, with the port running through the rear deck. With DB 1200 watt amp cranks out well over 143 db new TL. It's sick, his front window pulls about an inch both ways. He also has DB Components (he works at a DB shop), sound pretty decent, although not my fav. Check out something else for components, the lower MB quarts aren't too bad. The shop rocks though, def. best in omaha for installs. Whoo soundwaves!

My buddy has a platinum series 12 and its not bad, but better could be had for the money.
