View Full Version : Good deal?

I just bought some stuff off my neighbor. He's moving, and didn't need it.

* Pioneer vsx-305 reciever. It's old. No surround sound, no idea on the power output.

* Pioneer PD m502 6 disc CD changer. Attaches directly to above.

* Set of Jensen Concert Series 3150 towers. 15" sub, 4" mid, 3" tweeter, passive crossovers on everything. They have a little chart with the frequency response, but no numbers to go with. They make SSBM come alive. =)

I paid $50 for everything, but it's far too large to keep in my room (pic pending)

Should I keep it or yard sale it?

I'm not a fan of those huge 3-way deals, although the receiver and the disc changer might be usable.

Well, I've thought about it. I'm probably going to just sell them to my parents, since my dad wants it in the living room. I'm not making anything out of it, but hey, I can take the system in there and put it in here.

These speakers make me sad. The midbass is just incredible. I can't wait for those 8"s to come in from Foreman so I can try for the same in my car.

EDIT: As promised:

Just because you can't afford it, doesn't mean it isn't appreciated...

To Eddie - looks like a Bryston 2B SST? Sweet. That's a good system, even if it is solid-state :raises nose in air: :D

Sorry, your putting "WOULD" in capitals made me think it was sarcasm.

And yes, tubes > all.

Actually its a 4B-SST, 300 X 2. Yeah Tubes are out of my budget, at least the ones that I want. :crying:

You'd be surprised...unless you want 300 watts per channel of them :D

Those technically aren't pink. That's just uber-weird lighting, the flash, and the fact they were less than a foot away from the camera at the time. That was actually a very cheesey looking quilt my grandmother made. Mostly black checkerboard and weird start patterns. Of course nobody mentions the flowchart diagram stencil, the 1337 fan on the speaker, or the almost legible "Fedora Core" logo on the corner of my monitor. =p

Recently one of the towers kind of died on me. Half and half, I think I might need a new 5" driver for midrange. Plus the previous owner pushed in the dust cap. WTF is with these idiots? Don't touch it if it's moving. Anyhoo, still trying to sell it to my parents. I need to clean it first.

Next up: Smaller towers using PA tweeter, 2" aura mids, and 8" Beals Brother's subs. ;)

What about for movies??

JimJ

That's all it's good for...

For regular music, surround is extremely distracting.

I agree that playing a stereo source in surround mode such as Pro Logic II or DTS Neo 6: music sounds like a$$. However, after listening to a bunch of DVD-Audio multi-channel tracks I've found "SOME" of them to be very nice sound. Making them sound fuller, NOT echoed, hollowed, or "in the head" sounding. Where as some over use the surround channels and degrade the sound. What do you think?

I think musicians play in front of you, not behind you :)

I'd much rather have a very good 2-channel soundstage in front of me and going back, then be sonically assaulted from all directions artificially.

Ok, you're a "purist". Thats cool. I happen to love 2 channel music also. I just think multi channel is a nice alternative. Nice thing about DVD-Audio and SACD is that they include a 2 channel track as well.
