:D

so what i have left over from my last building is a whole sheet of MDF, 9 pioneer NSBs, 2 dayton neo tweeters, two 2-way crossovers and some gold binding posts. anyone else have an idea for a design? yeah yeah i know that i build and design speakers, but i really wanna use up the wood and supples. mini towers? bookshelfs? what do u guys recommend? oh, and these'll be hooked up to my grandfather's integrated amp and will be run to the xbox w/ my old sony sub :D

Vifa, Dayton, Tang Band...just a simple 6.5" midwoofer should do.

Tweet-mid configuration, build the cabinets sturdy/heavy enough, you won't need to worry about her knocking them over :)

yeah those are all good brands, but i'm looking for specific drivers u guys have used. i need to keep the total cost of drivers around 20 or so (these aren't high end, but neither are my homebuilt dual woofer towers that > advents). i'm not worried about her knocking them over, but like hitting the cones with her feet or somethin..oh well she breaks 'em she buys 'em. what do u all have in mind driver wise?

Ten dollar drivers are going to limit the selection somewhat...

A tower design is going to be your friend...the cones are going to be around 30" off the ground, unless she really tries to kick them, I doubt she'd be able to :)

A pair of grilles would also protect them.

hagop, ur my new best friend. the drivers dont need to be 20, i just meant relatively cheap as i've dropped some serious cash into speakers lately, more like 40 for the pair. i mean i know how to browse their site, i just need some that u guys have tried and liked alot.

it needs to be shielded, primarily playing splinter cell and gran turismo

Put them in the corners of the room. Poof - you've solved the shielding problem.

I don't have any *personal* experience with any of those, but I have read the stories and experiences of a lot of people who have done pretty much everything you can think of doing with those drivers.

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=51 <- it's crazy what some of those guys build with 20 bucks in drivers.

lemans,
Post some pics of the speakers you've built. I am really curious to see what you've done.

Even though he doesn't have a digital camera, he should scan in some photos of these projects, for all the posts about them :)

i made an insurance catalog roll, but that doesn't get the newest stuff. i'll take a roll specifically for this. i decided on the dayton classic woofer, but the 6 1/2". would one be sufficent for regular gaming, or should i do dual woofers per speaker again? think computer usage...

One should be fine...how much power are these going to be sent?

150, old 150x2 integrated amp (RCA), so probably close to 100.

JimJ

That'll be plenty...you don't need to go dual mids unless you really want to...

woot i got them finished. god ****, i was playing splinter cell for like 6 hrs, cause the new audio just makes it that much more fun. even shooting out lights is incredible. i have the catalog film, but it doesn't have any of the DIY speakers, just the advents and the subs, pioneer carousel and the receiver.
