Does anyone have an idea on finiding out if a sub enclosure will fit into their car, without actually doing a build on the box?

Thanks

I use cardboard from old boxes. :D

Yeah all you really should need to do to make sure a box will fit is to construct the bottom and the backside pieces from cardboard, those are the only two sides that should ever give you trouble trying to fit it in your trunk.

^ yeah, I make a cardboard cut-out whenever I'm testing a new box size.

the problem isn't that it will fit INSIDE of my trunk

the problem is whether or not it will fit THROUGH the opening of the trunk.

i think there's no way possible besides building the box and/or a model so you can rotate it as necessary to get it in.

thx:)

I had to put the lower 13.5" into the trunk, slide it forward into the backseat, and THEN mount the baffle and sub. That might work if it's just so close. ;)

What size box are you needing, I've got plans for a box that will fit in the trunk...3.5 cubes, tuned to like 29ish if I remember correctly.

P.S. I drive the same car...

In dealing with the car, I would venture to say you're probably going to have to do 2 boxes if you don't want to build in the trunk...the other option I see is fiberglass.

With two boxes, you can make each box like 12.5 inches deep, and it will just drop straight down into the trunk, then you can slide it back...you could fit two in there pretty eaisly that are around 4 cubes gross.

With fiberglass, you could run a board up the back seats and another across the floor of the trunk, then glass all the way across and out far enough to get the airspace that you need....

Heck yeah man, 12.5 inches wide, 20 inches tall, and i would guess somewhere around 30 inches long...

4.3 cubes...
that'd be a direct drop-in...

BUT, here's the thing... when I rotate them, they both would have the 12.5" wide side facing forward... i can't put a 15" sub on a 12.5" baffle.

i've already thought about that one :crap:

i did some more measuring in my car.

the opening is 12.5" deep. the opening is 48" wide. the opening has a little area the goes down the back of the car, it's about 6" tall, and 30" wide.

inside the trunk, i have 52" across in the back. i have 35" across in the front. i have 18" tall in the back. i have 16.5" tall in the front.

i have some figuring to do :P

<edit>
and if i were to do something like iamamp3pimp's box, the baffle is only 15" by 12.5", so i'd also have no room for a port :-/

When building in-trunk... what alternatives are there to using screws/wood glue/caulk?

That's the only thing I don't understand about building in-trunk.
