SWEET JELLYMAN :)

im glad i could help. did my CAD drawing help ya?

lets see if it fits in the trunk!!!

//edit

dude. now that i think about it - thats like a mini wall kind of setup

//edit 2

jelly, id prolly put a pair of wooden dowels on the bottom of that port plate for bracing. looks like its gonna flex if theres no support in that port.

the cad drawing helped a little. i used it as a referance, mainly for which board butted against which board. i measured one side, traced the other side, drew .75" lines around the side piece, and just measured from that.

i'm hoping it fits! but thats why i didn't glue or seal it yet.

yes semi-wall is what i was going for:D
i still need to cut the 'port divider' it will be braced;)

i don't know what i'm gonna cover it in. i wanted to smooth the angles w/ some fiberglass and paing...but then i was thinking of carpeting, so i could use a little xtra and pull, and glue it to the roof and sides...so it looked like a complete wall:D

jellyfish420
04-03-2005, 10:40 AM
i thought you were putting in a divider in the port or something?
i have 1 left over piece thats 35.5" x something. and a bunch of pieces that are like 15" wide. so i was waiting till i fit everything together before i cut the brace.
because if i messed up a cut then i need ther 35.5" piece to redo it. and as it turns out...ya, for some reason i cut the baffle 1/4" to short. so now i'm gonna use the smaller pieces, and i'm gonna piece the brace together.

no room inverted :(
here is somepics. i'm gonna go out and get like a 1" dowel or two for the baffle. there is
a little more flex than i was expecting :( it wouldn't fit in the car in one piece, so i put it all together except the top, 1 side, and the top port brace. slid it in, put the side on, then brace, then top. it went rather nicely, cause once in the car i could slide it around a little on only had to use a screw driver on like 2 screws :) with out any more jibber jabber.....

jellyfish - with the rl-p's in your old box and/or this one, have you heard anything louder. if so, what was it that you heard? i'm going for a similar setup, and i would like to see how loud it would be, compared to other subs.

like i was gonna go dual avalanche 15's, or dual rl-p15's. i'm pretty sure i want the rl-p15's but i still like to hear what people think of them :D

so what do you say?

this is louder (by ear) than anything i've heard or owned. my bro has 2 L7's and i blow him away, i got a cabin gain advantage on him, cause he got a suburban. the 5ft@36Hz was WAY loud!! the 5ft sealed there was a noticable drop in output, but don't get me wrong, it still WANGed! and the lows were better than the 36Hz box. the 6ft@25Hz ...higer freq say above 40Hz, louder than sealed, not quite as loud as 36Hz...but the lows, sub-30Hz will literaly kick you right in the back of the head. my only competition is my friend with the 2 HCCA's and a bd1000 on each one. but we'll see soon enough. he agreed to go get metered with me after i got this new box done;) so hopefully in a week or two i'll have some numbers for you guys.

jellyfish420
04-05-2005, 03:07 PM
ok, i still got a little flex in the baffle. and it is bugging me so fu(king bad. what should i do to stop it? do you think if i added another piece of mdf to the baffle (flush mount) it would stop? the sub comes to the top and the bottom so it would be a 3 piece deal... like this

Why not run some allthread from the baffle to the rear wall of the box? That will stop flexing and wont take much time at all.

GCAdidas13

resin!

jellyfish420

Why not run some allthread from the baffle to the rear wall of the box? That will stop flexing and wont take much time at all.
did you not see the internal pics? the allthread would have to go thru the port:( and thru the port brace. well i guess i could offset it to miss the brace. but i'm a freak for symetrical. it would probably bug me too much if it was offset. i think i might try taking the brace thats in it now, out. and cut another like 1/4" longer and squeeze it in. would it hurt the baffle to have a constant pressure on it like that? or would i be better off just doubling the baffle.
i wanna get this fixed! the more i listen to it the more i don't like this box:( with it being so close to me i can hear the wood flexing!

bcarpenterfhl
04-05-2005, 10:58 PM
if you plan on covering it or just dont even care. fiberglass should really help.

GCAdidas13
04-05-2005, 11:15 PM
mix up some resin and hardener, and put it all over the inside of the baffle.

do the outside too ? maybe

Then throw on your extra baffle while the resin's still wet. That will be SURE to stop that wood from flexing!

:)

use epoxy resin

doesn't smell half as bad, does the same job, but it's a bit more expensive

(someone should check me on that)

jellyfish420
04-06-2005, 01:29 AM
double baffle.

double baffle, and maybe a second brace;)

JimJ
04-06-2005, 03:23 AM
The more MDF, the merrier...

req
04-06-2005, 07:50 AM
get some thin strips of wood (1\4 thick?), soak it in resin, soak the MDF in resin, and put them across the back of the baffle

maybe do some verticle bracing (floor to baffle) and cut the top at the 63 degree angle or whatever and wedge it between one of the strips and glue it on with some fiberglass, and drill it in place thru the front baffle (if you can line it up).

use your imagination :)

jellyfish420
04-06-2005, 05:52 PM
fixed it :D
it wasn't that it wasn't braced good enough...
it wasn't braced at all!

i put on the center section of the flush baffle and the sound didn't change, so i took it back off cause if it didn't help i didn't want it.( it looked out of place) so i took the sub out to start some internal bracing....

my brace had snapped. the sound was the two pieces vibrating together. and when i pushed on the baffle it pushed the two pieces together. it sounds fu(king awsome now!!!
