I am considering these two units. Is one better than the other? There specs look pretty similiar, but I don't know much about car audio. What do you recommend?

Most will say shy away from sony due to there track history with HU's. But I say pick which one fit's your needs. The Alpine has a better onboard EQ/crossover than the Sony. The Sony's preouts will be a tad bit over rated. But the Sony is still a decent unit. Basically the alpine will have more features and be a better build quality but there both pretty decent units in there own right.

I don't really have any specific needs. I do like that the Sony has a 2 yr warranty though, and I think I like the way it looks a little better, plus it is cheaper. What do you think of the JVC Aresnal 560?

I personally find nothing wrong with JVC. But I would much rather choose a kenwood, alpine unit first. As for the warranty, you can get the alpine unit with a warranty also.

The Alpine warranty is 1 yr.. Even the JVC is 2 yrs. I guess it isn't really a big deal.

Not when you take into consideration what your getting with the alpine. A product that you will probably never need to send in for warranty service if you don't abuse it.

OK. Then I won't focus on the warranty then. I will probably wind up with the Alpine. Thanks.

Ok now your becoming to dependant on my info. Pull up the specs on the alpine website and compare the two. www.alpine-usa.com

9833>9830 - greater EQ settings.

Actually, I was putting it out there for anyone not just you. I also, checked the specs and couldn't tell what the difference was because I am new to this and don't understand all of the different eqing optings, thus my login name. Besides, I just bought the 9833 from Crutchfield so you don't have to worry about answering any more of my questions. Thanks for your help.

Just so that your aware, Sony's newer and top line headunits are really nice. I havn't had any problems out of mine at all.

Now if you buy a $50 one from wal-mart or some baller named Bob, then sure you can see some problems.

And congrats on the purchase

You can pick the 9833 up along with a power kit and a host of other goodies from Crutchfield for $315 flat. Pretty hard deal to beat right now, has me sold... :yumyum:
