I only pay $45 CDN and I only have a 45 liter tank. But it's good on fuel and I use Premium fuel too. The cost is $0.99/liter here. I'm not sure what all that is in the US.

I hate it.

We are not ready for this by a long shot, and hybrid cars have not had enough development or been in production long enough for any "test of time" observations to be recorded.

<shrug>

Sad part is, gas prices are going up, and stores are raising their prices on many of the goods we buy. In this all, the only thing not going up is wages.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where this could head.......

2.19 around here parts. ***** big time. Nothing i dread more then putting gas in the car. I only put 20 in at a time though. That gets me roughly 200 miles and i fill up about every 5-7 days so it adds up really fast. I have a small leak in the top of my tank so i can't fill up. I think i'm getting around 18-20 mpg. Not to bad considering my car has 213k miles on it.

Gas price = me cryng

This is very true...

The bad thing is there is some legislation being brought up that would tax individuals for miles driven rather than the extra tax on gas so we'd be getting penalized for running hybrids and driving a lot...not sure it will go through, but that paired with high gas prices (tax is only like 30-40 cents a gallon) would really ****.

There was a turbine engine that was tested and ready for in-car use designed by a CEO (? someone high up at least) of Compaq and Rosewood motors. The engine got 100 miles to the gallon and was sold to a major auto company (can't remember which one) and has never seen the light of day since.

Biodiesel is some cool ****...I'd love to get a diesel in my next truck and mess around with making fuel for it.

I used to subscribe for a time to Home Power, which other than being a radical hippie/freeloader mag had some good technical articles on homebrew photovoltaics (solar power), hydropower, and wind generators. They also did an article about a husband/wife team that took a stock Renault RV a few years back and ran it across the country, making fuel from recycled fryer grease as they went. It's an interesting concept.

As some of you may know I claim no political party.

Our current state doesn't look good. The gas prices are going to hurt us really bad. First rates are going up to fight inflation then you have the cost of gas going up which is going to cause the price of nearly everything to go up. People stop spending we head back into a recession and then what. We really can't use government spending to get us out of it. If our deficit gets too large and inflation continues foreign investors may lose faith in us. If the gas prices are still ignored at this point and the government does decide to spend it may get us out of a deficit but we'll fall right back into it with an even larger deficit because the problem isn't solved. We have to open our reserves we have to start drilling in Alaska. We don't need to produce that much but we do need to produce enough to dump the prices down for american consumers. Once this has been done we need to do investing heavily into alternative fuel for vehicles.

Things will only get worse with gasoline as other developing countries are increasing demand permanently.

But it is a political issue. Both parties have me pissed. Democrats don't want to drill in Alaska when studies have shown it can be done safe and that's what Bush wants to use. But the Democrats want to use a different reserve.

I'm sure gas prices in my area are well above all of you. Haven't been to the pump this week but last week it was around $2.25 for 87 octane. Don't even look at 91 octane anymore. That's right. That's the highest octane we have in my area now. Years back it was 93 then went to 92 and now it's 91.

I wonder if people would still drive full-sized SUVs and trucks if we had Britain's gas prices ...
I doubt it.
I used to watch this european car show, the majority of the cars they tested offered a diesel engine and a gas engine. Very weak in the HP dept (diesel), but they are more concerned about the MPG than peformance.
Diesel is cheaper than gas there, in the U.S its opposite

Still retains the usefulness of a large vehicle (hell, a 'Mog will beat a Hummer at its own game) while greatly reducing the operating costs.

I think its averaged out to $.41 a gallon on the show TRUCKS, it offers better peformance than regular diesel, its also better for the environment.

It's right around $2.30 here in middle TN. Back in 99, there was a gas war or something and gas was around .80...

It could be worse. During late 70s people had to wait in line to buy gas. The govt could control the price of gas, then suppply would run out.

Biodiesel is the way to go.

Initial setup costs of around $200-300, but over the course of a year you'll more than make it back...will run in any, unmodified diesel engine with no supposed loss of HP.

If you use your car for nothing but commuting back and forth, an electric conversion might be an option. However, they're heavy, expensive initially, and have a pathetic range (most get 50-75 miles on a single charge).

Biodiesel is the way to go.

Initial setup costs of around $200-300, but over the course of a year you'll more than make it back...will run in any, unmodified diesel engine with no supposed loss of HP.
Yea, biodiesel is cool stuff...very efficient. I think a popular name in science or automobiles (I can't remember who...maybe Daimler) predicted that we'd use a peanut-oil based fuel in the future...and his prediction isn't too far off.

Yeah, a few months or so ago I was watching "Trucks" on TV. Stacey had a biodiesel setup showing it off on there. It looked pretty easy, a hell of a lot cheaper too!

If you use your car for nothing but commuting back and forth, an electric conversion might be an option. However, they're heavy, expensive initially, and have a pathetic range (most get 50-75 miles on a single charge).

looked at the place that the tv show truck did the bio fuel on and the $ for the kit was 3 grand to 4 grand b4 shipping

That's like taking a professionally installed system with W7's from an authorized shop, and saying that's how much car audio systems cost :)

Putting it together yourself, you can do it for $300 or under.

We are putting more money into paying for gas which is mostly supplied by foreign sources. More $$ for them, less for us. Less money available to put into our own Eco. Inturn causing our economy to fall.

This is beyond rediculous.

Us Iowan's aren't dealing too well with this. I realize that fuel is higher in many places, but when your factor in demographics, Iowan's (myself included) thought that $1.70 /gallon was way too high.

Hell, my lawn tractor **** near takes $10 to fill.

Let's hope we get our "down" refineries back online real quick, and that we all wise up to the fact that it is time to build a couple new refineries in-land.

Most of our refineries/rigs/etc. are in the Gulf right now.

Nothing like putting all your eggs in one baskett.

I've been thinking again so:

Here's a brain teaser for today....

Diesel Fuel is essentially a "less refined" version of our standard gasoline.

Biodiesel is among our "newer" fuel resources, and it is renewable.

Why have we not learned how to further refine it into Bio-gasoline?

Still 2.89 /gallon here. My Bike will be ready tonight.
