I saw what was called a snail shell box from Powered4Sound.com and they sound great. Is this some mystical, patent pending box design? What do you know about them? Can one of you box building gurus make one or better the plans for one?

It's not a transmission line. Anyone can build a transmission line box. It is much different. FYI.

It's a modified rear loaded horn design. The designs vary per woofer used.

Sound quality of a sealed box as loud if not louder in some cases than a ported box. It's like combining a sealed and ported together.

:imo: They are way to expensive. When a properly built ported box can sound almost as good. But they are very nice boxes.

x2.....not really worth the added expense. If they were selling them for $100 a pop, then it might be worth while. But at the prices they are charging, not really worth it.

true......but i agree with what u said ..........its took expensive and u can build a ported box to speaker specs and sound just as good

Another type of enclosure you may want to give a whirl if you're looking into snailshell is an ABC box. Not the same at all as far as design goes, but they're supposed to give great frequency response as well as output....and they're a little easier to design.

Aperiodic Bi-Chamber ported. Nice boxes, just big. Good output, clean response, just big.

Go there, go to speakers, scroll down and click on the "Imperial Folded Horn"...so what if it's 28 cubic feet, you can have a sub cabinet more efficient than most people's front speakers. :)

Firestarter had something similar in his VW Comp van a few years back. Wicked.

How did it sound?

I have a 4 cu ft gross for my 10 running less than 200 watts RMS..so far it hasn't even seen more than 100 or even 50 watts cuz I haven't really cranked it up, and it already sounds great. The upper bass sounds better than my 8-incher ported, sounds as good as my other 10-incher sealed, and sounds better than my 15-incher sealed...and it can hang with my sealed 15-incher on the low stuff..maybe even outperform it when I can crank it up--I can't right now because I have a fcuked up baffle from screwing-in the d@mn sub.

Exactly what is the difference between a double shot, snail shell, and bass reflex enclosure?

A bass Reflex I beleive is another name for a Ported/Vented box or something other than a sealed box...

Snailshell and Double Shots are a bit more specific...

EX, Right offa their site;

Q: What is louder, 2 Snail Shells or 1 Double Shot?

A: 2 Snail Shells would be louder, but of course, occupy more space. The Double Shot would be more SQ (Sound Quality) while the Snail Shell would be better for SPL (Sound Pressure Level) contests.

LoL @ Quote.

The P4S Team still hasnt put up any decent numbers. I've emailed, posted, and generally searched the lackeys for it. Best I've seen was a 146.x in street --- oh yea, these things are SUUUUPER efficient

Yeah I have them in already. Pics of the actual speakers are on my sound domain page. I'll have installed pics up in the next few days. I'm to lazy to update sound domain:)Sound Domain (http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/705281/3)

They sound great. I only have them running on about 50 watts right now. They are IB High passed @ 78hz and low passed @ 4000hz. That's where my tweets pick up. And the midbass is great. They actually shake my door a bit. If I have my leg pressed against the door it vibrates

The midbass is very accurate and It plays flawlessly on all frequencies. I'm very pleased by them.

Yeah, I want to see or hear what the actual differences are in terms of output. I found a P4S dealer in Palm Beach, FL so I am going to head over there in the coming weeks....I am waiting to see when that guy (he's actually one of the mods on P4S.com) gets his Termlab mic back. I told him I want to test my XXX 15 sealed against his MTX 9500 12 in a SS on a 1501d. I was going to build a 4.5 cu ft box tuned to 32Hz but I decided to wait because if the SS proves to me to be more than just hype then I will go with one.

Now, the designs that have been floating around the various forums aren't the same as the new design from what John Nolte says. I'm not sure. We really won't know unless someone gets a new SS and cuts it and take the dimensions for a comparison.

someone that appreciates my humor, i like :)

forgot 33Hz, with a setup like that, all you'd need is anything between 13 and 100...
