rule of thumb is 1lb per 1sqft
but dont hold me to that.

I don't think 1.5 can be made from a 1 cube box, maybe 1.3 - 1.4,

x2 That extra .1cuft just won't happen. Polyfill just won't cut it.

Edit: And since that .1cuft will make such an impact, you better start over.

How can adding fill to your box make the volume greater?

It doesn't, it messes with the waves inside the box, slows them down or something, causing the speaker to act as though it's in a larger enclosure..

right. polyfill is often misused. many times people think it makes the sub act as though it is in a larger box. when used correctly it should only be used for fine tuning the box. it is only a tuning tool. if you have the wrong box, then it is simply wrong and polyfill wont help you. if i use it at all i would usually use around 50% in the main cavity of the box, but it really depends on the initial performance of the box.

hope this helps. also, it specifically states that it does trick the sub.
