Hers my question I have mu mids in the stock door locations, the only problem is that they sit behind a hard plastic grill in the door that has small perforations in it

when playing the sound goes all over the door panel (since the mid does not sit flysh with the grill--so I think I lose some clarity since the midrange is being dispersed all over the inside of the door panel--then through the grille

I was thinking I would get a cleaner sound if I could bring the mids up to the face of the door panel (see the perforated sqaure in the first picture) and just cover them with thin grille of some sort

So I was wondering do I just cut the sqaure out, and then glass in some sort of hole, or do I have to glass the entire lower part of the door panel (wouldnt be so bad as I then could have selaed door posd )

any suggestiosn would be cool

the door pocket

1) use the door coluem and make rings up to the face of the door panel so the woofer will still be is a IB environment just flsh with the door panel

2) take off the whole lower (beige) pocket area and make a sealed door pod covered in charcoal faux leather or something?

whadda ya think

Do what I did. CUt a hole in your door trim and work from there. :)

cant you take the grille off the door?

if it doesnt just pop off, use a dremel. then maybe build a 3/4 mdf ring to move it out of the door a bit.

ok - im not exactally understanding your problem.

the front of the speaker should be sealed off from the back... is it not doing this? it looks like your door is matted well enough, but your problem is

I was thinking I would get a cleaner sound if I could bring the mids up to the face of the door panel

right? so you think that grille is blocking alot of your sound then? you could always try doubling or trippling that MDF ring thickness (just another 1 or 2 MDF rings on top of each other) and then cut a circle out of the grille, and do somthing like that.

have you listened to it without the door panel on?

make sure there will be an imporvement before you start cutting ****.

this is what i did with mine, although it doesnt look like you have this option... maybe you can get some kind of ideas from it though.
