View Full Version : advice on HU needed... also new accord owners help needed...

ive finally decided to bit the bullet and get a really nice HU for my car. no
matter how many LOCs and half assed work arounds i do to get great car
audio, its always going to suffer because of the HU. i came to a total
realization tonight that this is my car and i shouldnt suffer to keep it exactly
how it came.

anyways. first i need help with the HU itself. MANDATORY that it has a
clean way to install an ipod. i wouldnt mind a touch screen. im not limiting
the cost necessarily if i see the benefit. hooking up a ps2 is not a benefit to
me, but maybe being able to scroll my ipod from the HU is. i want it to have
enough pre outs that i wouldnt have to worry about future speaker upgrades,
because the interiors and midbass are next on the adgenda after the 15A and
this headunit i hope to find. i want it to be something to be envied. honestly
if im going to potentially ruin the overall look and continuity of my cars interior,
i might as well have a kick *** HU to show for it.

SECOND... accord owners please help me find a reasonable dash kit that
i could live with to get this HU setup and looking as good as it can. if anyone
has pics id really appreciate seeing this for real.

There are kits, but I haven't seen one that really looks fantastic. It seems like to me, you may have to build something. Check Metra and AI for yourself. Ill go and look really quick and post a link.

That is the link to the Best Kit that relocates the radio down farther in the dash and leaves the factory screen. The harness is included. That is all the help i can give you at this point. Metra doesn't include a picture of their kit so Im really not sure. The Best kit really doesn't look too bad. You may have to get custom to get the look you desire though. Just have a look.

Metra has the Type II kit which doesnt work for our climate controlled cars, only manual. The other option is the Metra relocation kit. It takes the place of the pocket below the radio/climate controls. I opted for the second one and made to house my Arc DXE processor. I kept my factory Navi and have absolutely No issues. Although the DXE will run you Quite a bit more than just getting a HU. Your choice, I just preferred a nice clean look.

i was at crutchfield and there is an alpine 9853 thats going to
be instock on march seventh... i could get the alpine ipod adapter
for it. seems like a nice deck and crutchfield gives you the harness
and wire kit and install directions. i checked the vehicle checker and
it doesnt come up with any issues with my car.

the harness mounts the radio in the bottom storage compartment.

it does say that you have to slpice factory wires though. what would
be the best kind of splices for this sort of thing?
