I ordered 2 sets of xxx mids. after some research i decided that it would be best to use only 1 set unless i could use 1 set for mid range freq and the other set for mid bass? or should i just sell the one set. and mabe look into a different speaker for a mid range?

I'de look for different midrange speakers. And sell the second pair.

I'm using my DLS 6.2s for midrange and my XXXs for midbass personally.

I was thinking that the xxx is more of a midbass driver and that a different midrange speaker would out preform it maybe the re mid

Gonna need to find someone who tryed both in an application to get a good answer on it I guess. I'm sure it will work though. But I still would not do it.

I guess the hard part would be finding a mid range driver that could keep up with the xxx mid. its gotta be something strong. another question though do you image the midrange tot he same spot you have your mid bass imaged to?

the image/direction of midbass is much less defined than a mid range speaker, so if its not entirely feasible or practical, you dont have image them together, or at least parrallel if thats what your asking.

also it sounds like you are a little equiptment happy, i would wait to try out your XXX mids before i bought another pair of drivers. From what i can tell there is no reason the XXXs shouldnt have great mid range also. forget another pair of speakers and go for some horns to pair with those mids.

thats what my origional plan was. put 2 xxx mids in a ported enclosure in my door pannels. then after reading some posts on this forum and another it seems that most times more will just cause cancelation issues. unlkess you using one as a mid bass driver and one as a mid range. so now im thinking put the mid bass and tweets in a kick pannel and put a mid range in the door pannels. but im not sur eif the xxx mid would be a good choice for a mid range. Im not sure what im going to do i just know that i got 2 sets of xxx mids coming and i need more info/advice

also looks like 2 xxx mids in each door is just way to much for a set of tweets

OMFG... The XXX mid is a much better midrange than the RE series. It is a KILLER midrange speaker with amazing midbass too. Run both sets full range bro.

I second teampsi's suggestion. Run both and cross them at normal midrange frequencies (I am planning to have mine at 3.6KHz).

Here, there are many SQ cars that have even FOUR midbass drivers on each door. One pair of high sensitivity tweet/horn and you're set.

i think i still run a tweeter right? so just slap 2 of em in each door in an enclosure i beleive .5^3ft tuned 40hz was the suggested size? now is that gunna be to much for any tweet to handle? should i just go with 1 mid in each door at full range.

Actually I have the same problem.. I dont know what to do with my xxx midrange/midbass when they come.

I was told to send them in to MADISOUND, and they would hook me up witth a crossover and tweets.

you can buy an active xover or you can have a passive xover made for them. im going with the active xover.

Big Rick, woundnt it be easier to run them sealed instead of ported to 40hz. I'll be using active aw well. I obviously have no experiene in this area. i also will be recieving two pairs. But thought all of them should be midbass to accompany my xxx.

Midrage, well i dunno..
tweets, i dunoo.

I know components are the only way to go. 3,4,5 way speakers, im not a fan of. I just cant miss any part of the spectrum

Bigrick31

Yes sealed would be easier than a ported or you could just run them without an eclosure or IB (infinate Baffle) from what Team PSI or Dave suggested you can run them full range meaning that they will do mid range and mid bass. as far as tweets go im going with max fidelity you can also look into Seas lotus. pereales the IDMAX chamelion tweets and a few others i cant think of right now

Yea but what Tweets should he use with the XXX6.5s?

I just ordered a set of the XXX 6.5s and 2 Sets of the RE Components, but if RE can get the tweets and X-overs for the XXXs ready; I'd rather put the REs in my Daily beater and put 2 sets of XXXs in my doors....

I think there are too many variables for one person to say, you have to use so and so tweet with the XXX 6.5". You can always customise a system to make it sound great with a tweet you choose. :)

I kinda agree, but I don't have the money to be buying 37 tweets and X-overs to test them and see.. Also, I don't wanna do my doors up for one set only to need to change them....

you don't need to buy 37 or so tweets, get a well recommended tweet, or better yet use the one that you already have.

If you get an active xo, then you don't need to do the trial and error thing with the passives. Just ***** having to run separate mid and tweet amps.

The XXX 6.5 works great for both midbass and midrange duty. Depending on how well sealed and deadened your doors are, how much power you are going to run to them, your bottom end crossover frequency, and driver axis alignment... We could suggest something for your application.
Basic suggestion: drop the pair in the door making sure things are well sealed/dampened and rigid (no front/rear wave cancellation and so your doors dont rattle apart. Make sure you have a decent opening for the pair to play through (dont hide them behind a tiny factory grill that was meant for a 4"). High pass them in a sealed/IB arrangement at 60 Hz. You can play up to 5kHz off axis or 7 kHz on axis. Depending on what tweeter you use, you can move the mid low pass down to match for better integration to the tweeter.
Now if you have TONS of room, you can always run the pair in .75 cuft tuned to 45-50 Hz and have more midbass than you will know what to do with.
