hey man how are you gona install these? enclosure, and another questoin, how would you mount a mini enclosure in youre door? And if they were to go in enclosures would you need a TON of sound deader or not , im assuming not cause its in an enclosure but just asking.

cjjackson85

Im not putting these puppies in the doors, depth is like 4'' . I'm mounting my DLS Iridium 6.2 set in the door. I'm going to make a shoebox sized .3cu sealed box for these to put in front of my center console. :peace:

How are you gonna hear them? Midbass is directional. They need to be aimed at you.

Nice mids!

150w RMS, I'm going to send 200 at each.

paikiah

mine's only gonna see about 100w or so. Mounting in a sealed box (0.3cubes, as recommended by TeamPSI) in the doors.

I may port them with a .5cu, just gotta get a hold of RE and get the recommended tuning frequency.

paikiah

Ported : 8~18 liters, 60Hz. That was one recommendation.

Then I read somewhere else that it should be 40Hz. I'll be using them as a midbass driver, so I don't think it'll be beneficial to port them as low as 40Hz. After all, it's not a sub.

All the way up to 18 liters? That's like 1.1cu! You know the displacement? I'd guess like .05 - .1cu

paikiah

I didn't really think much about displacement, since it's a sealed enclosure. WIll prolly be like a regular 8" driver, I guess...

Wheres all the fun. My Dayton ref's are 3 5/8 deep and were definatly a challenge to install.

Good luck with some great looking speakers.

I can't wait to get mine in as well. About two weeks and I should have them in hand, I hope. I am also hoping I can fit these massive ****ers in my doors. I can use a 3/4" mdf mounting ring to give me some more depth. hope it fits.

I recommend .5 @ 40hz. They WILL play that low without and problem and WILL POUND.

TeamPSI.... What kind of car did you have them installed in, in the doors??? just curious. any modifications to do so?

TeamPSI
02-25-2005, 01:28 AM
I have a set in my Explorer.... just needed a spacer. IB in the doors.

Scott has a set in his Ranger... Used the front 1/3 of the door as a ported enclosure with a 1.5" port. Tey are in .35ft @ 40hz. OMFG!

paikiah
02-25-2005, 01:33 AM
Man, NOW I'm tempted to try porting...

decisions, decisions....

Nah, I'll stick to sealed for now.

TeamPSI, stop being lazy and ship it all out already! The wait is killing everyone...

How is everyone making a sealed or ported enclosure in doors??? sounds like a hell of a task. But I will probably try IB first and see how I like it. I am sure they will not let me down.

These are going to go perfect with my system and music I listen to. I have needed a strong midbass for a while to fill in the void upfront. I love my DA Hex comps but since I listen to alot of live recorded concerts(not the type released in stores) I need some strong midbass reproduction.

SHIP EM SHIP EM!!!

you make an enclosure in your doors using your brain and hands.

cjj2d
02-26-2005, 01:47 PM
should have known something like that was coming.

I was mainly looking for recomendations from anyone who has had experience with this.

I was thinking using these foam baffles I have as a mold for a fiberglass enclosure. Gonna try and see how it works out.

cjjackson85
02-26-2005, 01:49 PM
That's what I'm going to do for my Iridiums in my doors. Use those foamies from Crutchfield covered in an epoxy.

paikiah
02-26-2005, 02:06 PM
those foam cups might get you about the same volume as the displacement of the driver, not nearly enough.

For me, I'm incorporating half the door pocket (it's hard plastic on mine, and will cut in half so I can still store stuff in it) as well as some parts of the door molding to make sure I get about 0.3 cubes. :)

The XXXs, my midbass, will get .5 @ 40hz on my center console/floor. My Iridiums, my midrange, will be the ones with the epoxified (word?) foamies in my doors.

How are you going to get stereo midbass with both of them in the middle of your car?!?
