ive been hearing a lot about the 860mp being an excellent headunit but is it comparable to a 9835. Im going to need to buy a new headunit and i was set to just save up for a 9835 but this 860 is cheaper.

Well, IMHO the 9835 is superior in every way!

go with the 860. can't see how the 9835 is superior in every way. it's a great deck and if it's cheaper i would go for it.

Exactly what is the term used to describe the display of the 9835? BioLite?

Also how would it compare to the display the new Eclipse 8455 thats not yet released. I know its not out yet but tell me how you think it will compare.

Oh and sry for hijacking the thread. :)

is scrolling through mp3 better on the 9835 or 860. ive used some of the lower end alpines and i really liked how you could look through a mp3 cd.

I have the 9600mp Pioneer and let me tell you, the sound and sound shaping is EXCELLENT.

Scrolling through MP3's is a breeze, and I've heard that the 860 or 8600 has an even shorter pause before playback then the 960 has.

They are great little H/U. I've always gone with Alpine or Pioneer. Pioneer for now, and I'm very happy.

860=**** and alpine is not superior in every way....is this becoming a boner?? Ive had different alpines and different pioneers, yes alpine makes a pretty good h/u but everytime i find myself going back to pioneers premier. The sound i get from it just sound better to me than the alpines. Alls im sayin is, go to an audio store hook both h/u up to a set of speakers and flip between the two. put the setting and zero for everything and then see which one you have to adjust the most to get the best sound or whatnot. See which one comes out with more leeway. Price to price comparison, Pioneer comes out on top. Check out Hookedontronics for a killer priced 860...c'mon you get 6.5v preouts verse 4v. and you can make your own backgrounds..even convert **** into lil background movies lol! I say 860 all the way.

CHEAP ???? Why pay more for a deck that gives you nothing more in return. Just the 24bit burr-browns alone make the 860 a better sounding deck. Not to mention the MSRP on the 9835 is only $30 higher than the MSRP of the 860.

LOL........sonic bliss...........LOL

But remember young Jedi......."sonic bliss" has nothing to do with appearance or looks ;) Performance and Performance:Price ratio > looks.....and, in this conflict, I'd give that to the Pioneer :p:

havent heard a pio that sounds good yet tho squeak, im sure they have the capability, but id rather just go with alpine. only thing i like about the pioneers is u can upload ur own backgrounds, but even that is a little iffy. stickin w/ alpine for me

ive heard numerous alpines vs. pioneers and i can say yes some alpines sound good but some pioneer sound better. In this case i heard both compared side by side, in the same enviroment, same speakers.... ya and the pioneer sounded equally as good. Adjustability on both units was about the same. They both had more room for adjustment...IMO price to price comparision, Pioneer takes the Alpine. Looks...really subjective. I played around with the pioneers OEL program and made different movies ect... They dont have much adjustablity to them. But if you like the fact you can have pictures of your ride or g/f or whatever and make them into movies, again the pioneer takes the alpine. If your into simplicity, Alpine takes the Pioneer. But like i said, In THIS case, price wise, Pioneer wins.

I'll take the stronger preouts, burr browns and way better DSP of the 860mp....the 9835 is overlyhyped and overlypriced IMHO-yes its a nice looking HU and its credits remain at that-
Substance over style is the way to go-860mp is no ugly duckling in comparson either

Looks are subjective or for the eye of the beholder and has nothing to do with performance. Not to sound like a broken record but need I mention the burr-browns again. I would take a 24bit over a 1 bit d/a converter any day of the week.

but you may be biased as looks like a good 80%+ of your system is all tra...pioneer

Yes, you've made a true statement. I have a mostly Pioneer system. But I pieced it together one component at a time over a period of 2 - 1/2 years. We all know Pioneer makes a good hu. Ask anyone on this forum about the PRS amps and how well they perform (compared to their ratings). And the subs, well lets just say they are an SQ system's best friend.

Something tells me you chose your deck based on looks and looks alone. Thats cool because thats your choice. I seriously doubt you've ever sat down and gave the Pioneer deck a fair chance against the Alpine. You SAW something you liked and made up your mind then and there. After that psychoacoustics told you it sounded better too.

only thing i like about the pioneers is u can upload ur own backgrounds, but even that is a little iffy.

How is that a little iffy??? I don't understand this statement. If you have an Alpine how would you know anything about the Pioneer deck. I've changed my backgrounds, movies, pictures a bunch of times and it has worked flawlessly.

stickin w/ alpine for me

That is your preference and I respect that. All I'm trying to say is you had no real basis on which to say the 860 is "no comparison to the 9835". You just said it looks better. Alot more to car audio than just looks. :) I do love your choice of speakers though man. :)

yea..but i guess pioneers just soo goooood that they can compete with a higher class... lol I think that to sum this up, everyone get the 860! lol If you like that mon color screen and less volts...oh and did anyone mention the fact that alpines actually on put out around 2.7 volts..lol ive personally tested pioneers to have their rated power and more..heck my deh p440 is said to only have 2v and came out with 3.2!!! not bad at all.... :wowflash:

And how hard was it clipping when you saw 3.2v?

Stangs400
03-03-2005, 09:07 AM
It cliped slightly, and that was at volume level 38 out of 40, non cliping was volume 35 and if i remember it was at 3 volts solid. Using a 1khz sin wave...My point is, pioneer can be under rated...am i saying go out and buy a old deh 440? probably not. Should you take the 860 over the 9835? I would.

what about the alpine 9831?

is it any good?

JAZN
03-05-2005, 02:27 PM
IIRC the 9833 is a lot better than the 9831 based on tuning abilities. it has a better eq and time alignment, x-overs, motorized face, and a couple other things. it doesnt cost much more either, so id save for the 9833.

The 9833 is currently on hella-discount at crutchfield, and is currently cheaper than the 9831: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LfuElpYj1FH/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=500CDA9833&search=9833

$299 w/ full factory warranty is an awesome deal on that deck.
