Starting from scratch..HELP

I have had a few decent systems in the last few years. None of them which I thought were anything special.

I just traded in my cavalier and got a lincoln ls. I am looking to get good all around sound quality. Thinking, new HU, components(amped), rear 5x7s and one 10" sub.

I do not need the best head unit, as i do not do heavy customizing with controls. I am looking for an mp3 cd player that will be able to hook up RCAs for the components and sub and also have an input for a portable mp3 player.

I am looking for good deals. What are some good 2003-2004 head units that will be good for what i need it for? I used to have the pioneer premier p840mp which was nice but i dont want a flip. Anyone with a headunit they recommend, let me know. Ebay might work out.

rear fill? I assume that means the rears running off the HU?

Any others maybe a little less expensive? or even models from last year that were good?

Rear fill is running back speakers. Most people think it messes with the sound staging (delay in hearing) not to mention that you have to have speakers strong enough to be heard clearly over your subs.

I might try rear fill after I get my system installed but I doubt it because I don't have people ride in the back very often.
