View Full Version : Crap! Eclipse ESN security is a pita

So my father had an Eclipse head unit installed in his Lincoln a couple years ago. He had about 20 cds in his car at the time and the installer just used one of those CDs. He didn't mark down what CD it was. Well yesterday we had to install a new battery in the car and the Eclipse head unit now needs the key CD. Except we don't know what CD it is and my dad doesn't remember what CDs he had in his car three years ago (his music CD collecton consists of about 800 cds).

Well we tried a couple CDs and none of those worked so now the unit is locked. I'm gonna call Eclipse on Monday because their offices are closed during the weekend. This is such a pain in the *** though. Is there any way to disable the ESN feature after we get this working again?

I hope Eclipse doesn't say that we have to ship the head unit to them. The head unit in this car is a real pain in the *** to work with because of the way it is installed. You basically have to remove the dash to remove the head unit.

No, you do not have to engage ESN. ESN worked exactly as advertised. If your father did not write down the key cd, this is the problem that can arise.

Assuming he registered the deck(you would have to be an idiot to not register your eclipse deck), Eclipse should ask a few questions to confirm who is calling(your father should call since it would be registered in his name), they should be able to give him the rolling code over the phone.

Once it gets unlocked, I would suggest reprogramming ESN with a disc(only this time, have your dad write down the name of the cd).

You cant really call it a PITA, like JL Civic said...its doing exactly whats its supposed to do. Its the owners responsiblity to remember which CD was used. If he did remember, Im sure this post would have never existed...

Well he didn't forget what the key cd was, they just never told him or wrote it down. He didn't even know about the ESN feature when he bought the unit, he's really not that technically knowledgable, he just wanted good sound.

Well, if he wanted good sound, he certainly got it with an Eclipse. If the sales reps programmed esn without telling the customer what cd they used, I would let them deal with eclipse. That is incredibly stupid on their part.
