Have you tried it with another antenna?

Could be a problem with the antenna's feedline...although why that would cause a message to display I don't know. I'm not too familar with Pioneer units.

My friend got the heat message when ever his car has been sitting in the sun too long in the summer (arizona summers = 115 on a good day). Maybe a wire is crossed somewhere in the antenna and is causing a short, which in turn causes some heat to be transferred to the unit itself. Maybe a bad unit too, have you had it for awhile or did you just get it?

i got it in june, but im pretty sure its a faulty unit as it produces alt noise when i have my amp hooked up

yeah...sounds like a bad unit. after all, a short in the antenna feedline would make it not receive stations very well, but not cause any major problems with the deck.
