it depends on what you want to spend...the expensive way and actually the most effecient way is to get the actual computer for you headunit...or you can hook it up the auxiliry cable by getting for example.....alpine had the Ai-Net cable so you get that, then a RCA cable that ends in a mini stero plug, plug the RCAs into the Ai net cable and then plug the wire into the headphone jack...you control the songs on the ipod and the volume on the headunit...the RCA cable is like 5 bucks...u can get the car charger to...reccomended cause ipod has power save and while it is charging it sounds alot better

Plug that into your Alpine, then get a phono to RCA interconnect ($2-3 bucks at Radio Shack) and you're good to go.

iPod heaphone jack = stereo, common ground; keep that in mind if you buy radioshack plugs, you may get instrument plugs instead.

Monster makes an iPod out -> RCA, it's the best connection for your iPod if you have an input on your HU.

iPod has a 60m amp inside.

Don't know if it is worth it to you or if you can use the other features but I was gonna (probably still will) get an Audio Control HPX. It is a half din unit that has 13V Lines, auxilary input on front, sound processing for some of your lesser quality MP3's, crossover, seperate volume for subs and full range as well as some other features.

For the Alpine interface you need a radio with Ai-net hookup, and you're going to want the quick search functions as well...

If i have an M-bus headunit, what accessories do i need to control my ipod from my head unit? would i need an expensive Adapter? exactly how would installation be?

you need a LINE OUT from your ipod for the best sound, dont plug it in the headphone jack.......i use one of these http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-fw.html

then you need an aux adapter.......if you have an alpine, u get one of these http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fWWbZPOhDBT/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50900&I=500KCM122B

then, you need one of these, or something similar, it doesnt have to be monster.....1/8" to rca cable
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2117891&cp=2032058&f=Taxonomy%2FRSK%2F2032058&categoryId=2032058&kwCatId=2032058&kw=mini+to+rca&parentPage=search

then you connect the mini plug to the line-out, rca's to the aux adapter, aux adapter to the HU......i did it to my friends car, it sounds real good.......but yeah the most important part i think is getting something w/ LINE OUT

Ok I dealt with the exact same thing you are trying to do a while back, I am going to take some pics of what I did now so you can see. I will post them up in about 10 minutes.

Ok this is the absolute best option you can get, It will sound the best, it charges your Ipod battery, comes with the cables to connect your ipod to your HU, and you can control your Ipod directly from your HU. So I would use this (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LNKsw2Qo9rB/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=500KCA420I&search=KCA%2D420i) Next I will post up the cheap way to do this.

amr952
11-06-2005, 09:29 AM
Ok now for your cheaper way. What you will need is this KCA-121B (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-q1EZH2W74E0/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=500KCA121B&search=KCA%2D121B), you hook this up into the back or your HU with the AI-net end. Then you need this cord Mini to RCA. (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2110460&cp=2032058.2032228&cp=2032058&f=Taxonomy%2FRSK%2F2032228&categoryId=2032228&kwCatId=2032058&kw=rca&parentPage=search) Then you plug the RCA ends of this cord into your AI-Net cord and plug the Headphone jack end into your Ipod.

If you dont understand what I mean I can take some more pics of this in my car to help out, just let me know. You can find that mini to rca cord probably in your local radioshack that is cheaper, and you can find it in longer and shorter lenght's, just depends on what you need.

If it were me and I had the money I would buy the more expensive option so I can control everything from my HU but it is really up to you. Those are 2 ways that you can go about getting this done. Let me know if you need pics of my car.
