Just a super short review... Super nice deck, plays mp3's flawless and changes tracks FAST, no idea why others are having the prob. Time alignment rocks, crossover rocks, eq needs about 2-4 more bands and a lower overall Q setting than 1. Anyways I love it! Bio lite screen ROCKS!

The first time a buddy of mine showed me that screen, I fell in love with it. Scrolling through an MP3 disc was sweeeet :)

Will definitely get something like one in the next install. Must have a display like that.

can someone explain to me what time alignment is? thanks

It is a time delay in miliseconds for speakers. Basically you can tune the sound waves from each speaker to arrive at your head at the same time. Helps bring images up front, helps clean up bass ect..

Here are those pics :) I actually made a video of a run through of allot of the features and how the display works but darn ftp is down. I will get the vid uploaded soon. The vid is pretty cool, gives an in depth of what the 9835 is all about and how the screens look ect... Warning though the vid is like almost 40mb via quick time! But it is worth it if you have not seen a 9835 or are considering purchasing one. I will write a review in the review section of the deck tonight or soon.. whever I feel like doing it :)

I went a little different route and decided to mount the radio with the trim ring behind the panel flush mount style instead of the stock mounts which bring the faceplate about 1/2" out of the plastic.... Hated the way it looked by putting it in the way it is supposed to go. Left nasty gaps on both sides of the deck. On the metra pocket I also decided to use a different trim panel for the front and back it off about 1/2 inch flush. Looks real good in person, pics do not do the install or deck justice. FOr $390 off ebay brand new I cannot ask for a better deck!

Last note, the face tilt is an AWSOME feature. The video shows off all the tilt angles and when you turn off the truck it stays tilted out for about a minute so you can remove the face easy and when it retracts into the unit. Then when you turn the key on it auto tilts to your preset level which makes it very easy to see and control.

Ok guys, here is the video... It is sorta cheesy and things are gone through quick but I wanted to show a very quick rundown of the deck. Right click on the link and then "save target as" and save the vid to your desktop to view. My server is pretty darn quick so for those of you with high speed net the download should only take a few minutes. If you just click on it your pc will probably try to cache the whole video before playing and it will take a long time.

Alpine made this deck being audio pro's themselves... My girl or most friends that are not really into audio or technical at all would have no clue how to make use of this deck. I would not reccomend it to people that are total noobs or do not understand mid level audio terms and how they work.

Not really... looks similar but overall features are night and day different. I did the 9830 "year before the 31" in my sis's car. Nice deck but menu's were a freakin PAIN to run through. I found myself quite frustrated for awhile getting all up and running.

if you can't afford the 9835 then there is the option of the 9833, which is a step below the 9835

but **** that display is too nice, wished i saved up a little more and went for the 9835 instead of buying the 9833 for 317 back in may

yo quick question....I currently have a 9831 and I love it. However, I would like to get a new deck because I am going to give this unit to my wife. ;)
Anyway, does the 9835 have a limit of characters for MP3 discs? My old Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X859 deck didn't and it scrolled the entire song. The 9831 auto scrolls, too. However, it cuts some characters out and that's annoying IMO.
Thanks.

01-10-2005, 09:22 PM
I have not really checked that out to much but because it is a full graphical display I imagine it will scroll all the text. The viewable area is tons larger than the 31 :) I will toss in a mp3 disk in the morning and see what she does "will pay attention this time haha"

Got to test mp3's on fuji, phillips and crappy gq cd's today, ALL WORKED FLAWLESS AND CHANGED TRACKS FAST! I have not the slightest clue why in the world people are problems with the tracks changing slow.

Also the display works awsome, scrolls mp3's from right to left giving all info, and if you hit the title button you can get all sorts of info like bit rate ect... VERY COOL! Also as I imagined with the graphical screen you can see the whole song title, or album or whatever ya want. Not just a tiny portion of it. If you choose to show all the info and have it scrool it will show the artist name, and about 1/2 of the track title. I am SOOO happy with it and the graphical interface to go though folders of mp3's is second to none. Very easy to read and select! However scroll speed is a little more laggy that I like....

Should definitely be NO problem when running component amplifiers. This may be a possibility if you use the internal amplifier, but mine is turned off! I use amplifiers for my entie system. I only have 4 wires hooked up on my 9835, yellow (power main), red (power turn on), black (ground, and blue (remote). peace

Nope sure did not, no need! I have the power ic turned off and seperate amps. I have no problem railing this deck.

If you hook up and use the internal amp, that is the only time problems can occure.

Hahahaha got a good laugh from your posts. Gotta love noobs :) Brought back memories of that profile power guy! They always think newer = better. All in good fun :) The simple fact is the 9835 is one of alpines all time best decks, in my opinion it ranks up every bit as high as my 7909, 7949, 7998 ect... Simply an awsome sq deck for the cash. First, I would like to apoligize for the questions I have, but please help me out here....I am also under the impression that newer usually = improved (better)...I was about to get the 9855 opposed to the 9853 because it seemed to be identical but had 4volt pre outs...Correct me if I am wrong, but I learned that the 2volt pre outs are good enough, so it would save me $100 to get the 9853.....Now I come across the 9830, (I cannot find the 9835), and it is about the same price as the 9855?...Is it superior to the 9855 and 9853? If so, how? Is it so much better that I could hear the differences?...How old is it? Is it possible to still buy them new or what?...I am just a bit confused that people are buying old models for the same price as the brand new models, and they are supposedly better than the current models....Please clear this up for me, thank you...

imo all the headunit companies are "cheapining" there products. i'm an eclipse fan and i just wasn't impressed with there new offerings so i bought an 8443. anyways the 9830 is like last year's model i believe so it's not like it's old school lol. preout voltage is overrated so you will not see a difference between 2 and 4 volts, just properly set your gains. the difference i believe between the 9830 and 9835 is i think the 9835 has bass engine pro vs. bass engine plus. basically the 9835 has a little more processing and a supposedly better display. i'm not totally familar with alpine decks so i'm sure someone will clear up some things on this :)

Yes they have degraded the quality of the product in favor of mass marketing. Example, Alpine decks started down the toilet "yet again" when they decided to start selling to retail stores like Best buy. They have a heck of a name for themselves and they are riding on that to make a profit / yanking features.. Like I said in another post, alpine seems to go in 5 year waves... they build great decks for 2 years and then go down the tubes for about 3 years and then start to go back up in features / qualtiy. IMO the 9835 was the peak and the 9855 was the start down the hill. This year, feature for feature the decks just ****. The new 9857 is a joke compared to the 35. Look at the features on alpines site! Ah well. And yes I also agree, eclipse did the same thing.

Actually the CDA-9855,9835 were considered the top decks for 2005 and the last of the electronic swingface series.

A mint condition 9855 expect to pay about 200+
A mint condition 9835 expect to pay about 160+

Regardless they are both sick decks!

I have not seen a good condition to mint condition 9835 go for less than $250. I would not give more than $200 for the 9855, not that it is a bad deck or anything but I did not like it near as much. After useing them both and doing the review, I still feel the 9835 is superior in build quality and is the better deck of the two. IMO of course. Feels like alpine built the 9855 in a different factory or somthing... was just a different feel and the glide touch... man I never like that at all. Was not my thing. Guess some liked it.

In fact out of all the decks I have owned in the last 3 years, which is a LOT of decks, the only deck I really "miss" and wish I still had was the 9835. So much so that most likley it will be going into the tC and be the last deck for the car.
