i have a pair of alpine type r 6x9s and they dont sound as good as they should in my oppinion, i really cant crank them cuz the bass distorts the whole speaker, i have a 300w amp powering them, before when i was between sub projects i would have the amp on full with the bass all at 0 on my HU and i would be lucky to reach 20 (volume) on my alpine HU, i dun get it, shouldnt these type-r's sound better then this?, there even in boxes!?

6x9's are usually made to be put into rear decks or free air designs. By putting them into those tiny "looks tiny from the pic" enclosures is probably holding them back. Are you trying to run the lowpass or somthing..??

lol no i have no reason 2 run them lowpass... i ran them at regular, i put them in boxes because when i did have them in the rear deck they ****** just as bad? mayb that was cuz they were brand new and i needed to break them in or something, or because i didnt have them hooked up to an amp.. when i started haveing them hooked up to an amp was when i threw them in the enclosures... so u think amps help high power 6x9s, mayb i should put them back in the rear decks and have them hooked up to an amp they will sound better??

What amp are you running to them and why not help them out and run them high pass from say 40-50hz..?

i would have the amp on full

do u mean the gain on full??? or bass?? what is set on FULL on the amp, i dont think anything should be set to the maximum on the amp at anytime, maybe ur clipping ur amp

well yeah they sound pretty sick on high but i dunno y they werent sounding good on full, when i say full i ment the crossover on the amp, lp,full,hp, and no i dont have the gain all the way up id say 3/4.. sence i got a sub i deff threw these babys on high.. but it just stumps me that they sound liek $hit when i crank then on with any kind of bass to them..liek they only sound good on HP...

Which is why I asked what amp he is running :) If it is like his sub "no and I mean no offence" then he is probably clipping it.

:wow:
exactly... ok let me make it clearer... if your sub has a Low-Pass Crossover set at 80 hz, set your High-Pass Crossover for your 6x9's at 80 hz.....

yeah but the highs aerent my problem, the spkers have great highs, just when i put it on normal, like hp + lp they start 2 sound $hitty

probably because of your settings on your head unit + your amp settings... cross them over at least 50... since you have a sub i'd cross them over where ur sub is... let ur sub handle everything below the crossover frequency... don't turn LOUD on your head unit... and do not put the bass boost on the amp or the head unit... and do not turn the gain all the way up... level match with ur head unit

If you dont care about any bass then just run them at high pass at about 150 or more. I know when I had my kicker 6x9s the vocals would get pretty loud and clear. The bass would distort tho.

sounds to me like you are clipping the crap out of your amp. Turn the gain down to 1/2 or lower, turn the bass down to 0 on your head unit, and then try turning it up a little. And yes, if you have a sub, set the highpass at something close to what your sub is lowpassed at. These guys are trying to help you, but i don't think you are trying to listen.
