lol, stfu supa ;)

round subs have a *lesser* chance to distort because everything is symmetrical. with oblong speakers, they have more of a non-linear movement because the cone is weighted differently on the different sides. its kinda hard to explain but basically in a nutshell;

round speakers > oblong speakers
less distortion > more distortion
less cone area < more cone area

the more cone area means they can get louder with a smaller footprint (size) and this is why they use them.
dont ask where square speakers fit in. lol.

Where do square speakers fit in, Req? how about five-sided ones? :spank:

square, pentagon are still symmetrical..with increased cone area...and rigidity..so in theory..less distortion with more output.

i think...therefore i am unsure...

idont know if any1 gave you a answer but thought i would before i came here...
a circle is the exact same distance from its center..
now a 6x9 is well..3 inches longer of its ends unless you turn it making it the top n bottom.
i'm happy to help.in more simple terms the defference is well 3 inches.......

You won't be able to tell the difference between a good 6x9 and a good 6 / 6.5, quality wise. I know there are some people who claim to have ears so sensitive that bad music is like a jagged stick up their ***, but unless you're one of them, the only thing you'll have to worry about is not buying cheap speakers and jagged sticks.

I'm by far not SQueerish. But I'll bet you a dollar that a 6x9 will distort before a 6.5".

No doubt. But by (personal) definition, a good speaker, 6x9 or 6.5, won't distort until it's louder than you would normally tolerate, anyway.

Nice round speakers still pwn nice 6X9's. I'll never have oval speakers again.

well some1 says a 6x9 will distort before a 6 1/2...
i believe thats impossible...put 115rms to your 6 1/2 then watch them explode while i'll put 115rms to my jvs 3way bronze speakers as they beg for more power...HAhAHahAHaHa.........
now i'm talking the most likely out come..there might be 1 or 2 6s that can take that power a few minutes but 99% can not......

I usually don't go this far...

But you sir are one ignorant s.o.b.

Learn to stay away from blanket statement, unless you have proof.

^X2. Yeah, so you have oval speakers than can handle 115 watts for a while. And? There are component sets that recommend recieving more than 200 watts RMS, and work best when overpowered. I could bet money right now someone on this board is sending more than 800 watts RMS to their component set, and not having any real trouble.

BTW: Have you ever actually *sent* 115 watts to those things? Just random curiousity, I don't have any amps that do 115, just jumping from 85rms to 250rms, both much over the JVC bronze speaker's power ratings. Personally, I find they are pretty happy with 15-20watt rms.

look...i'm talking from my own opinion of 6s i've seen..i doubt i've seen 6s thatll take 100rms......
i know you do sometimes over power them....
but i'm talking abut suggested rms...ok then i could say if you put 155rms to those 6s and ill put 155rms to those jvc 6x9s.....which will sound better an hour later??
concidering your 6s will be blown....
i said i was talking about most of the 6s out not all.
so youre saying the highest rms can match the highest 6x9s????laughs...sorry
some guy here thinks his 6s can take 800rms......
my example was just that a example....try to understand he point...
oh and i have 5 1/4 jvc taking 60-70rms...they love it...
i would feed them more but i respect these speakers too much to chance it.....
so i'm sure those jvc rated at 120rms can take it and laugh....for hours
if not theres a warrenty...jvc says they can take it...

From my experience with ovals, they don't sound bad until you hit a certain wattage, then they sound like complete butt, so if you havn't put the wattage to them, don't talk about it, because you just don't know.

I used to love my 6X9's, then I took them out, now I'm only running front speakers and a sub... and I love it.

PS... My 6 1/2's handle 120 RMS, and would probably take more.
