2.9 cubes too small?? help!

I was recommended a 3.5 cube box for my recently aquired JBl p1500 In order to make it fit in the car I am now driving I need to make some cuts on my box and bring the volume right around 2.9 after port and speaker displacement.

Any adverse affects possible???
