I'm designing a box for one 12" RE SE ported. RE's site says 1.8 tuned to 32, is that accurate? (been reading about how their boxes arent). Also, that 1.8 is AFTER sub AND port displacement right?

So when I calculate how long a port will be...do I put in the 1.8 (which is what my desired internal volume would be AFTER the port)??? Arg. Thanks

i built that exact box... 1.8^3 tuned to 32hz...

didnt really work to well... i plan to build another
box this evening ~2-2.5 cubes tuned about the same...

hopefully that will be better...

btw... the SE's displace .15 cubes... and you need a box volume
of 1.8 AFTER port and sub displacement...

what didnt work well about your box?

bbp6 ive come up with a new game plan...

i'm planning on buying two 12" SEs and porting them in the neer future. but you say that they need more space then the recomended volume? what about tunning, is that any different too?

more space and volume yes. Tuning would have to be done individually but that would basically require you to do the same cubes twice so it isnt that hard.

Got a diagram of the plans ? It could be that it's not actually 1.8 ft^3 to 32 Hz ;)

Ya was the wood, port, sub, etc displacement accounted for? :p:

i used bass box pro to design it... cant recall the
dimensions off the top of my head... i could post
them later on today when i get back home...

anyways... ive just finished cutting and test
fitting another box a bit over 2 cubes with
a round port... i hope to get that one finished
soon...

does anybody know the difference between what RE recomends and a bigger box? if nobody can claim that a bigger box is better, than i would just go with what RE says what it's sub needs.

ive just had it verified that my newest round port box
is ~2.1 cubes net... still tuned right at 32.??hz... once
i get it loaded into the car ill post if it sounds better...

at least bbp6 has shown me that with the sealed
box ive got im missing a lot of bass...

might sound a little boomier too. Basically hit harder and have mainly more spl. A little decrease in sq tho.

geoffry did u subtract the volume of the sub and the walls and port yourself? And are you positive its 2.1?

might sound a little boomier too.

do you mean that as in a good thing or a bad thing?

yeah im positive about the new box... it sounds really good to...
you should be good to go with a ~2^3 box tuned to 32hz...

the 1.8 just didnt cut the mustard...

as in boomier i meant louder. More spl. Not a bad thing unless you dont like louder bass. Ima have my 12 SE tmrw too. I'll post some pics and tell you guys how that goes

That SE sounds great tho. I havent REALLY used it yet. I have the gains set at 21/35 and I havent gone past 12. It sounds really nice. Ima wait till i get the ssf before i really start pounding or maybe i must just do it be4 that :veryhapp: .
