View Full Version : pics of the 4-10's box build

I think someone might have asked for pics of the build once..and im done for the day and bored...so here ya go.

Pile o' supplies

Cut em all, now the test fit

it all fits, but there is a problem.. the gap between the end of the port and the wall is only 3 inches, and the port is 4.24 wide..not sure how this happened, it worked on paper, so i hacked it off and threw the extra peice on there, it should change my tuning to~32 hz which is about what i wanted anyway..

after the glueing screwing, tweaking, and all that(the top ismt attatched yet, cause i think im gonna brace behing the sub holes scince they are so close together..tomorrow)

i was thinking something like this for the bracing around the holes...tell me what you think.

it all came together pretty fast and smooth..i liked planning it on autocad..this was a first for me, although the port discrepency still freaks me out, it works in theory, and all the measurements match, i dont know whats goin on.

Looks good:) Use wood glue instead of Liquid Nails next time.

wood glue makes a chemical bond, where the LN just makes a surface bond.... glue is better in the long run

12-10-2004, 10:17 PM
hmmm..interesting, everybody recommended LQ i thought. well, its too late now

12-10-2004, 10:20 PM
u can still glue ur top on :)

12-10-2004, 10:29 PM
true..ill do that...wahdya think of my bracing idea?

12-11-2004, 07:23 PM
can i ask you what your port length is?

12-11-2004, 07:25 PM
its about 23 inches

12-11-2004, 11:43 PM
why wouldnt you just double up on mdf on the front, that'd be adequate bracing. it'd only extend your port by 1/4 of an inch.

12-11-2004, 11:43 PM
i meant 3/4 of an inch, not 1/4

12-12-2004, 12:18 AM
yeah, thats a loat of extra pondage, but i could i guess

12-12-2004, 12:58 AM
yeah would glue and pressure would really save u alot of holes.

12-12-2004, 01:24 AM
pressure? save holes? what holes would it save?

12-12-2004, 02:44 AM
screw wholes, U kno u have to drill the whole first then screw in the screw. But if u use wood glue and use clamps or put pressure on the box while it is drying it would work better.

12-12-2004, 02:57 AM
oh yeah, i just didnt know why there would be less holes with glue than with liquid nails

I screwed mine together, and siliconed the interior.

Don't forget to round your interior port edges, brandon.

Someone suggested to me that the speaker furthest from the port will face greater resistance than the one closest; and that this could yield unwelcome results.

Another person suggested the speakers were too close - magnetic fields, and whatnot. I tested this ( with a paperclip and a pencil;) ) And the fields do in fact overlap.

Seems to me that 2 speakers are surrounded by the other 3, while the outside 2 only are close to the center 2.

Er, if you follow;

|.o.o. <- far from port
..^2 \3

ascii is k4yr4d.

12-12-2004, 01:55 PM
hmm how else could we do it with this amount of space then, will the overlapping feild be that big of a deal?

12-12-2004, 02:03 PM
i dunno much about this, but a lot of the orthodox isobarik methods involve the magnets close or touching eachother, and ive never read anything mentioning that. i dunno, maybe it doesnt have any relation. just a thought.....

12-12-2004, 02:06 PM
hmmm true.....

12-12-2004, 09:54 PM
yeah as lolyd has 18 8 and they are kinda close.....

12-12-2004, 10:04 PM
This box is going to explode. >: )

i put wood glue then screws too

12-12-2004, 10:15 PM
i gorilla glue it, screw, then seal it with caulking, works great :-D

12-12-2004, 11:57 PM
i think that liquid nails is quite sufficient with screws. if ya want... wood glue it together, liquid nail the inside edges, and screw it together.

i dont think you will notice any kind of difference from the speakers being further from eachother and the magnetic crap.

unless somone can proove an audible difference, i dont think it will matter all that much. its looking great. tell us how its sounds and get it in that car.

12-13-2004, 12:10 AM
will you be posting more pics when your done, and did you come up with a final bracing idea?

12-13-2004, 12:33 AM
ill post more pics of what i did when i am done, i havent worked on it in a couple days

12-20-2004, 07:32 PM
well im finishing her up today, im bad at spray paint, and its like 40 degrees out, so im having troubles making it look good, but i got it decent so im gonna try to get e'r inside so she can dry properly, and make everyone in my house high as a kite ;) ill post pics once i get it in side.

12-21-2004, 09:42 AM

12-21-2004, 01:28 PM
I'm carpeting mine :)
