So what frequencies do you want this mid to cover?

Is your Diamond mid just not cutting it midbass wise? Does it seem like it's missing some punch down low or even higher frequencies? Are the enclosed in kick panels or what? 150 watts per side should be plenty, and make them scream ... so I'm trying to figure out what you think is lacking :)

Just how many people have heard the XXX mids to recommend them to others? Seems a lil strange.

Didn't know there'd be a day when the frustration would surface again.

no more than $300 for a pair. My Diamonds are 5 1/4" and yes the 150 watts to each of them make them scream and sound excellant, but you can only push so much mid bass out of a 5.25 speaker. They cover alot of ground but there is just something missing from where my Mag stops and they pick up. I wouldn't even mind going with an 8" mid bass.

Well you have a lot of options.

Where will these be mounted?

Koda's might work really well for you. You can also get some very nice Audax and Davis drivers for that much too. 6.5's of course. Morel / Usher / ScanSpeak for 8's.

Will the Koda 8 fit ? (4" mounting depth) $158 for a pair before shipping.

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=297-425 - I think these look interesing. Good amount of excursion for a DIY driver, looks like it plays pretty cleanly up to ~500hz

Anyways; Peerless, Vifa, Scanspeak, Usher, Max Fidelity, Morel, Dayton Audio and Seas all have good midbasses in that price range.

they will be mounted in my doors most likely. and the 5.25 Diamond will be put into kick panels.

The RE XXX looks like it has some strong potential. But I will definatly wait till more people have some experience with them. Koda's look like a good option for me as well.

Keep in mind that the XXX's require an enclosure.... ported preferable.... may make door mounting difficult. Not sure about the others

i think you should run some good pyramids like the as62's. the tweets are super bright and the mids are killer. they run about 28 dollars on ebay. if those want work try looking at lightning audio- there plastic woofers look pretty cool!!!

Actually that has been amended. The XXX mids will work IB.

i can say the lightning audio components are pretty good for the money- i paid 28 dollars for my killer lightning audio components on ebay. i run them off my factory 87 ford escort tape deck- you just cant match pryramid or lightning audio for value and performance-and guess what you can find them at all participating super walmarts!!!!! oh and yeah the plastic woofers look killer!!!!

I believe I will be waiting to see how the XXX mids do after a few more people get some time with them and put up some reviews. It will either be the XXX or Koda for mid bass. if the XXX will fit in my door and do as good as teampsi says they are in IB situations then woooohooo!
