i finally made up my mind and im buying dual kicker L7s...i was looking at enclosures and couldnt decide....i heard ported is better and i read the article but i can get the subs already in an enclosure but it is sealed....should i go through the trouble of buying and shipping them seperate and buying the ported enclosure? will it make that much of a difference?

enclosures are what makes a sub sound good or not. you don't want to skimp on a box. there are people on this forum who will build you a nice ported box. you want the box made to the specs of your sub and not a prefab. also jmac makes box plans for a small fee so you might want to hit him up and get a plan and possibly build it yourself or have someone build it for you.

it would actually sound better in that box, since its a sealed boxed.

L7s are SPL subs, they are meant to get crazy loud, which usally means a ported box.

i heard l7s in a sealed box, and they still got loud

so that set up should be fine?

it seems a little small to me. i came up with 1.35 cubes per sub and that was outer dimensions and did not include sub displacement. you could put polyfill in if you wanted to, but i think l7's would preform better is a ported box.

that's worse then the sealed one. too little space for those subs. doesn't even give port dimensions or what it's tuned to.

buy some box plans off jmac and build it urself, a lot cheaper, and its not hard contrary to popular belief.

what tool do you use to cut out the mounting square...sorry if that's beyond newb, that's actually the only part stopping me (if the tool costs a lot)

sawsall/jigsaw. cutting out a square makes it even easier to build your own box. hell you could even use a cicular saw.

router or jig saw..sawsall might be a little difficult but to each his own.. jigsaw probaly cheapest if u dont already own the tools. circular saw is hard to drop in on the line.. easier to use the jig saw.

HAVE to get ported for these subs, try to give them a minimum of 2.5^3 if you really want to pound them.
