Sascha1981

Hey guys,

I'm lookin' for 6.5" component speakers that work great with Hip/Rap/RnB.
I was looking into the following ones:

Focal 165 W
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1
CDT Audio CL-61A
Resonant Engineering RE
Adire Audio Koda 6.1
Elemental Designs 6500S
Alpine SPX-177R.

Which of these would give me nice sound and bass?
Cause I'm addicted to BASS!
:wacky:

i listen to reggae and rap. i have had experience with the cdt cl-61a , the RE RE series, and the alpine type r comps, i know they aretn the type x but eh. anyways out of the three imo it goes RE RE, then alpine then the cdts. the cl-61a ******, at least to me. have heard a lot of good things about the other cdt's but for the 61a...pass on those. alpine type r's=really nice. nothing really bad about them. a little more mid bass and they would be awesome. RE RE are absolutly awesome. lots of midbass, super clean tweets, BUT they can be a little harsh with stuff like lil jon. i dont remember what exact song but i think its called put you hood up. the tweets are really harsh with a song like that but with almost anything else they are awesome. now if only lil jon could actually rap instead of filin his music with so much bass that makes up for everything...wait thats a different topic. anyways about the tweets being harsh, its nothing you cant fix with a little eq'ing. from the select 3 i talked about i would go with the RE's. dotn know much about the others you listed

how much does a pair of them RE cost?
Also, does it need an external amp for it if we have a cheap ****** sony HU? (this is for my friend).

Thanks, Matt

You arent going to yield very good results from running components off your head unit.

George,
thanks a lot for your detailed answer.

You convinced me and I'll get the RE's.
Now, I have an Hifonics Z4000 with 2 x 100watts into 4ohms. Is that enough to make those babies pump nice bass?

Btw I also have a Hifonics sub (bandpass w/450watts) and a Hifonics BX 1800D to power the sub. Just to let you know I don't expect wonders from the compos.

You have a nice amount of watts...use them wisely ;)

Sascha1981

supa c,
I always thought bandpass is perfect for Hip Hop/Rap music!? What would you recommend instead?

supa_c
11-28-2004, 05:02 PM
well, i listen to hip hop my self.
Ported to 30-35HZ will be better.
Bandpass cant hit the low lows like a low tuned ported can.

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 05:21 PM
Okay so ported would be the best choice. Do have a certain woofer in mind? Maybe RE's too?

How much were you looking to spend ?

Awesome! I'm lookin' for a 12'', which of these has about 450 watts rms into 4 ohms?

Or are all these 2ohmst? So I can get one with 900 watts x 1 channel into 2 Ohms!?!

JoseMCeee
11-28-2004, 05:55 PM
i think the SX can recieve 1000 watts rms. Im not too sure if you can configure that to 2 ohms or not but you can figure that out

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 06:54 PM
supa c,
I've got another question. Is it true that the recommended power ahndling is 50watts only? Doesn't that mean that my amp (2x100watts) is too strong for the RE's?
Also how do I order them?

supa_c
11-28-2004, 07:13 PM
I highly doubt thats the truth.
Im pretty shure 100W each wil be fine.
To order you can either email or phone RE.

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 07:18 PM
Cool.

Just checkin' - how much more are the XXX? Have you any experience with them?

squeak9798
11-28-2004, 07:18 PM
Phoning them will be way quicker. And you should be fine with that amp....just use your head and properly set your gains.

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 07:24 PM
Sorry, I was talking about the compos...how much are the RE XXX component speakers?

supa_c
11-28-2004, 07:25 PM
They dont have any left.
I think there in the $400 range if im not mintaken

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 07:38 PM
Oh boy, now I'm back to zero and don't know what to get...I don't wanna get a new amp to fit my speakers. I'd rather want some speakers that fit my amp, ie 100watts rms.

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 07:48 PM
What about the Adire Audio Koda 6.1?

supa_c
11-28-2004, 07:50 PM
Those are in stock, they will take 100W RMS each
I like Adire :)
You can always make a set

Sascha1981
11-28-2004, 07:58 PM
Supa c I really appreciate your help!
Well I guess I gotta sleep on this...but if you can think of any great compo system for me please let me know.

not to sound like a hater but nothing sounds good with hip-hop because for #1 hip-hop doesnt sound good. how can you can make something sound good in a decent pair of components when the music itself isnt anygood. if i had a 40,000 dollar eq sound system you think YANI would turn into a musical genius because i have his stuff jamming in my high dollar 40,000 dollar ride- I DONT THINK SO! look hip-hop is uncool, people that listen to hip-hop are followers-your listening to music that the big record labels tell you what to listen to. they choose what they think sounds good and your gullible *** goes out and buys it. do you like being told what to do-apparently you do because those big "main-stream" radio stations(clear channel) your nodding your head to are paid by the big boys to brain wash you into to thinking this stuff sounds good and you just gotta go out and buy it. hip-hop is unoriginal and fake. notice they bite off old rock and country tunes. be original dont be a follower!

maybe somebody hasnt shown him to the light. be a wise man and make decisions for yourself. i can just here him talking to his buddies-" i want to here that tweet and that boom in tha trunk"! he wants a component with some loud *** highs and booming subs in the back. go get you some horn and 15 15" crunch subs and boom your brains out of your skull. or get you a creative loafing paper(free) and check out some bands coming to a town nearest you

Oh okay, I'm sorry LBX2G. I thought you were dissin' me though I didn't say anything bad...

My price range is between 250 and 300. Which did you like better the Alpine or the Lightning Audio? Actually the Resonant Engineering RE comps would be my choice, but I'm not sure if they can handle 100watts.

:waycrazy:Who gives a phuck what you think about hip hop? Or what you think about other people's personal preference for what they like to listen to?

Sascha.....a good component set will play most music well- if you have an EQ/crossovers on your HU you can work with them based on their strengths and weaknesses- What you need to consider is....do YOU want a set with a fabric (silk) tweeter or prefer a metallic dome(alum/titanium etc...) sound? As far as midbass response it will be mainly subject to install and power(quality of driver too of course)......

My brother listens to mainly Rap and his Diamond CM3 components put out some sick midbass off 125rms- I could set up for you to audition a few sets if interested...PM me

Sascha1981

3.5Max6spd,
I'm not even really sure what the difference between a silk tweeter and a metallic dome is n terms of how they sound. Can you explain that to me please? But I do know that I want smooth sound cause my ears are pretty sensitive when it comes to very bright sounds. I tend to lower the treble in every car I get in...

better yet....would you like to hear the difference in person?
Where in NJ are you?

BTW dont just buy shyt because someone online recommends them - thats cool and all but if you can actually 'hear' a few sets with you own ears, do so.In the end it will be an educated decision...

Keep in mind though; In the end, it's all personal preference. Don't like something just because you are supposed to like it according to some website, like it because that's what your ears told you :) That applies to the metal vs soft dome tweeters, this component set vs that component set, etc etc.

It's obvious that you haven't heard many Lyricist. There are different branches of 'hip-hop'. Gangsta rap is probably what you're talking about. Some of it does sound like some guy like Nino Brown off New Jack City just walked into a studio and started recording, but that's definately not how all hip-hop/rap sounds ;)

You can hit up some local shops and just listen to different comp sets yourself, each with a different style tweeter (soft vs metal) and you'll probably be able to decide which one you like better on your own. It will give you an idea of what type of sound you personally like.

Plus, I'd take 3.5Max6spd on his offer to meet up with you, if you guys live close together. Though we frequently have differing opinions ( ;) ), he is a good, knowledgeable guy who will help point you in the right direction with some great face-to-face advice and ear-to-speaker experiences.

I'm lookin' for 6.5" component speakers that work great with Hip/Rap/RnB.

I recommend the JL Audio XR's or Aura MR series. Both have very laid back highs that work great with Hip-Hop. Aura is smoother, JL is more detailed.

Str8Up

I still to this day have not heard a component set, a 2-way, or a 3-way, that put out more midbass than my Polk Audio MM6's. It literally almost sounds like I have a 10" up front on some of the midbass. I couldn't be more pleased, so obviously, I recommend them.

Also, they have a very laid back type of sound to the vocals, they don't pierce my ears like my Infinity Kappa 63.5i's. Some times my Infinity 6.5's are just too harsh, but that has never been the case with my Polk's. They are pleasant even with Lil' Jon songs where most speakers I've heard make his voice very harsh at high volume.

Again,

I recommend Polk Audio MM6 Components...
