What is a phase plug. I've been seeing these on really expensive component mids. I was just wondering what it did.

takes place of a dust cover and is rumored to produce high frequency sounds reducing/eliminating the need for a tweeter

also it serves as a heatsink of sorts

I don't think they are supposed to reduce/eliminate the need for a tweeter. They are however supposed to increase the off-axis response of the driver at higher frequencies, from what I've heard. Plus they are supposed to help reduce power compression as acting like a heatsink for the motor.

dunno about totally eliminating the need for a tweeter, but for my speakers im listening to right now, they sound pretty good on high frequencies for having no tweeters, also, they stay ice cold :) lol
