As a make-work project, I tonight decided to resurrect a box of the past that wasn't loud worth ****. It's going to be now, though. I'll keep y'all posted as I keep working on it.

Rick, looks like your last box so far.... ? I'm obviously missing it?

Of course, you wouldnt share your secrest... now wouldyah?

Ricktc

Well it's a box I had in there at one point during the summer, but couldn't get it very loud, so out she came, and now I feel like building another box, and this one was the volunteer for recyclage. I'll show quite a bit of what I do, it's not going to be anything ground-breaking, but hopefully as loud or louder than my 146.2 on the TL I was able to manage with my other box (which I am not done with just yet.)

sweet man you got a work ***** whats that box gonna be tuned to man?

davesexplorer
11-28-2004, 01:14 PM
Sweet, gotta love recycle boxes... made my old ported box into a smaller sealed box for winter :)

You're gonna let us know the results of your hard work right?

Ricktc
11-28-2004, 06:08 PM
Of course I will, Dave. Be a while before I do any testing, waiting until it warms up a bit, but as soon as I know I will throw some results up.

It should be tuned to ~44 Hz ish according to WinISD, 5.7 cubes net. It's exactly the same as my old box, except with sub port sub configuration, just using this box as a test to see which is louder. If this can beat a 144.8 NTL then it is louder and I will pursue it some more, if not, I'll cut it up and make this mofo loud one way or another.

I can fit 7 cubes in the trunk if I really want, before displacements, that's what this box was before I cut it down...84 in^2 of port.

wow, nice score man, you was hoping for a lot better score with this box, looks like you wont be ripping it apart after all eh?

Ricktc
12-02-2004, 11:34 AM
Heck no, I have much to do to this box, tons of stuff to do to it yet, and if my mic's not lying to me then I really have big potential to make this bad boy loud. Should be around a 146.8-147 on the TL if my mic isn't screwin' me around.

They're on my CarDomain site as well, if you want to see if that works for you, just click '1998 Saturn SL1' in my sig and check 'er out.

Stupid question time. Did you put duck tape on the port?? Why did you put that gray looking material on there?

req
12-03-2004, 02:49 PM
yes - and it smooths out the area between the baffle and the port walls. supposedly it gains a few .xx on the mic. but i dont know about that

rick - what mic are you using? if thats a TL then ****. if not, then what do you think youll get on a TL? you said 145~147? thats a great score... but how does it sound daily - and whats the tuning\size?

im about to build a 4cube box for my tempest. so ill log it like you

Ricktc
12-03-2004, 03:14 PM
Tis on my Classic TL, 145.2 should be on the new TL, needs some work to get it somewhat loud yet. Sounds like ***, tuned to around 45, 5.7 after displacements.

-Rick

Ricktc
12-03-2004, 03:17 PM
Oh yeah, my mic was deciding to be wicked high that day, so it is a mic ****up. Not as loud as my small box which would be high-mid 151s.

didya try angles yet? maybe they guy with the S10 can teach you his 'hood' trick... i havnt quite figured it out - but i have a good idea what it is...

Ricktc
12-03-2004, 05:02 PM
I have tons and tons of things to try, this is just a straight up box just to see if it is louder to have the sub/port/sub configuration or the configuration I have used in previous boxes. I have much plans for this box yet, might try and squeeze a 147 out of it on the TL sensor. (1.8 db to go for that.) I still have a lot to try with the little box too, 146.2 on the sensor is a good starting point, though.

Got some new Street A toys to play with. I figured for 80 bucks Canadian, why the hell not. Sold the old Pioneers, and got these bad boys. I'm going to throw them in today and get some numbers up later tonight most likely.

I can't link them as pics now, either, because CarDomain no longer allows you to use up their bandwidth by posting pics.

Well, it appears the links do not work, either. Check my CarDomain site, they are the last 2 pictures on the bottom of the page.

so much you can do to get loud out of a trunk :)

how are you fitting this biggie in there without building in the trunk?

Are you not sealed up around the box?

Ricktc
01-01-2005, 07:26 PM
Lots to try yet.

Slide it in through the rear seats, fortunately my car has a rather large opening with the seats taken out and it's easy to get boxes in there.

Sealing up around the box made my score go down each and every time I have tested that. Quite wierd.

**** winter has set in good now, but as soon as it warms up I'll get some build pics up as I make some progress. Might be getting some new amps as well.

how much can you modify your rear deck area in dbdrag?

I have some interesting designs if you can fiddle with the rear deck a bit ;)

Ricktc
01-02-2005, 06:10 PM
I think you are allowed to do anything with it, as long as the deck remains intact, IE. fiberglassing over it, as long as the panels fit back into place and remains fairly stock looking you're good to go.

Depends on the class you're running in.
