View Full Version : Fiberglass Kicks-Suggestions for finishing

10-15-2004, 03:57 PM
Hey guys, im new to the form, have been reading for the past few weeks.
Ive been working on a set of kick pannels for a little while, it is my first experiance with fiberglass, bondo and anything of the sort so if you guys could give me feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

Also im looking at finishing them by paint, i was thinking of just a mat black to make them look like they are quasi stock but i kinda wanted to do something that would make them stand out a bit at the same time so any ideas would be great.
same thing with grills im looking at making some, any suggestions of where to buy material?
Thanks guys

those door pods (technically, not kicks :*******: ) look awesome...

how about using the duplicolor chromomatic stuff? the paint that changes colors. that would be sweet...

and oh yeah....

we have another kent...lol

Well if you cant tell the car itself really isnt worth much at all, paid $700 for it a year and a half ago with 238k miles and now shes got 273k so i didnt really have too much planned for an aftermarket interier look beyond stereo work. Its a black and grey interier so maybe ill just keep it simple with the mat black, but on the other hand, i like the idea the other kent presented, maybe a silver/green or the ice paint would look pretty sweet too.

Im also trying to find some place that has some sort of trim stripping that i can put on the inside to push and hold the door paneling flush with the pods to make up for the small gaps at places something like this:

(Trim) (Edge of pods)
|\ |\
___|_\| \
| \

(hope you understand what im saying)
where the first slant is something springy and the OEM paneling slides down into it.

Thanks for the comments guys ill get some new pics up of them mounted and obviously some when i get them painted.

I would just finish them off with the matte black and buy some grilles from the cardomain store...they are very cheap there!

Awesome work ... those look extremely nice.

If it was my vehicle, I'd cover them in something black - whether it be paint + clearcoat, carpet, seude, vinyl, etc.

when are you planning on finishing?

well im in a fairly tight money situation right now so i guess once i can afford the paint... man i hate college sometimes
hopefully within a week or so, its getting hella cold here so im going to have to get some more time in my friends garage too
there really isnt too much rush for me either because i dont use my car very much while at school and as much as i want to be working on this all the time i have too much other things i should be doing right now.
