12" type r's can be had for like 200 for a pair and they sound really good

Type R's....definately. W3's are built horribly, and the L7's sound bad. Go to a shop, look at a type R and a W3 side by side and tell me which one should be worth more.

My bro has 12" JL w6 (not v2) and their range is very limited. My Cerwin Vega 15" VMAX not only gets lower, it gets higher too and is louder (with less watts) at certain pitches. I would go with the Alpine's for mainstream products. Great bang for the buck.

P.S. Might want to look into the type-x sub from alpine too!

Type-Rs and W3v2s sound similar, the Type-Rs are just cheaper. L7s can get much louder than either of those subs, though. W3s are certainly not horribly built, and don't go saying crap like "look at a type R and a W3 side by side and tell me which one should be worth more." That's just a big ol' load of horse shi*. Also, L7s don't always sound bad, it just depends on the box. Another good bang for the buck sub is the Comp VR. And if you wanna go non-mainstream then there are plenty of good subs out there.

Dude, i am serious, put a Type R 12 next to a W3 12.....look at basket, look at surround, look at wiring terminals, cone...... Ok...hands down, type R is better build. Sound is similar, SPL is similar, but build is better on Type R as well as price.

I've seen both Type-R and W3v2...I'll admit, that Type-R looks much sexier, but that doesn't always mean that much. Some people call Audiobahn subs **** looking, and their build quality isn't exactly stellar. Take things such as build factory and materials into mind. Not dissin' on the Type-R, I like 'em, good solid subs...just not necessarily way better build quality than a W3v2.

why are you using looks to gauge a subs worth. i think performance should be more important than looks. unless we all want audiobahn...

edit: sorry i should have read the whole thread first. i saw that post and had to say something...didnt realize other people already commented on it in the same manner.
