Ok... First let me say that this is my first set of comps. Although I demoed many sets, and know a few people with some comps, I don't have the experience to give a/b compairison.

They are installed in the doors of my 2002 f150. Doors have been damped w/Dynamat Xtreme 1-layer on inner & outer skin of door. Mid is low (modded factory locat.) Tweet is in front of my window crank aprox. 2" above the mid. JL 300/4 supplies the juice.

I started with the factory crossovers 12db slope. Unsure about actual factory x-over point I believe it to be 3500hz. Bridged the JL 150x2.

Having upgraded from Infinity ref 5x7's I was expecting a night/day difference and RE delivered in a BIG way. I did feel that the tweet was a little too bright. A little bit of eq/time-align. and the sound was very clean and detailed, sound stage had great separation and dynamics. Ran this setup for about 2 weeks. Although they sounded great, and everyone who heard them was very impressed.... I wanted more.

So I went fully active, bi-amping the JL 300/4, experimented heavily with x-over points and ended up with tweets@ 4k w/ 12db slope, Mids@ 100hz/2000hz 12db slope both ends. The features of the Eclipse 8454 are nothing short of spectacular. With this setup, and E-iserv which is Eclipses new feature that measures cabin gains, and system response. Then adjusts Parametric EQ based on results.

Not So Good Points

Both Mid and Tweet sound a little harsh at high levels. Effects Metal/Punk the most. Jazz and Classic Rock not as noticeable.

Not a **** package. Cosmetically very plain. Some may find this unappealing. I hope they continue to put the money in the speakers. If I wanted flashy I'd go to Circuit City and look at Audiobaun.

Good Points

6.5" Mid- Played down to 63hz at very high volume almost effortlessly. Trying it's hardest to keep up with the XXX-15!

Vocals- Outstanding, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, sound incredible.

Sound stage- Very detailed, dynamic, no blending problems between mid & tweet.

Product Support- RE first class all the way! My 1st experience a dual-1ohm XXX 15. It took about 2 weeks to get to my door. During the wait they drew up and e-mailed me with custom enclosure plans that fit my truck. Free of charge!!! I called them with every time I was unsure about something, they really love what they do over there, and have a real concern for there customers. The best part is you are talking to the people who actually build the stuff. The support I received with the sub was the reason I bought the comps. I figured with my first set I would have some questions. They answered all of them, helping with everything from mounting to going fully active. I can't thank them enough for all there help.

Price- $165 to front door!!! Enough said.

Again I am not a vet in car audio, but I'm extremely picky about sq and distortion. The RE's have and continue to impress. I will eventually upgrade to a new set. Considering Focal, Seas, Morel, Rainbow, DLS, etc., but these will hold me over quite nicely until a final decision is made.

****, that's some major underlap. You must have some pretty nasty stuff going on in your car in that range..........

nice.
I am thinking of buying some to sample them. If I like them I will keep them. I'll probably keep my RS6's just in case. :)
Do you have any pics?

Yes I know. The cab of my truck has about a 6db peak in the 2-4k range. It has been a nightmare to try and smooth out. It took forever to find the right points & slopes. I am open to trying new sugg. but I believe I've tried about every combo.

I was contemplating going active when I get mine...how was the tweet when it was passive?

Nice review, btw.

The tweet just sounded too bright to me. At high volume started to get harsh and breakdown in the lower range

There is no tweeter adjustment on the factory x-overs. This is what pushed me towards the active setup. Raising the Tweet's x-over point 4k really helped ALOT! Also tried steeper slopes but just didn't blend with mid very well.
