Ok I have most of my system planned out right now. What I am left with is what HU to get so I have pretty well narrowed it down to a KENWOOD KDC-X979 or a Pioneer Premier DEH-P960MP. OR Kenwood KDC-MP925 vs Pioneer DEH-P8400MP. Both pairs are quite close in prise... I love the looks of the KDC X979 but I also love the look of the P960MP and P8400MP. So i am at a cross roads. I should be getting stuff in september  so i do have time to change my mind... :wacky:

I am biased towads pioneer already..but that 960MP is freaking awsome..Color images and the electric faceplate that looks all stealth and then comes down to reveal the real deal..I was so close to blowing my budget on one of those..I just watched a BRAND NEW ONE go on EBAY for $325

I never thought Kenwood was that bad???but wow that sounds ******. I remember in the 1980's Kenwood had the coolest Head sets. Those things were cool and you where the **** if you had one.
But like I said I am a Pioneer

Hahahahaha, thanks all for your input, looks like it is down to the 960, 8400, and the P8MP. I know the 960 is probably the best but I'm not sure if I want to fork over $400 to get one, that is what they seem to be on ebay... I love the fold out style of the 960 and the 8400 so right now I am leaning toward the 8400 but they are a little harder to find. But then again the P8MP is cheaper than all of them so really I am torn between P8MP and the 8400. Any one have input on them 2????????

Thanks again

i would personally go for the pioneer 8600. same exact features as the 9600 just different display, but the 8600 is cheaper. i have had kenwood decks and changers and none of them lasted. my changer nroke twice in less than a year. i also had a kdc 419 or something like that it quit working with my disc inside it so i busted it apart got my cd out and threw it away. never had a problem with pioneer.

Yea, I don't really like the look of the 8600's though. I just think the fold out look of the 960 and 8400 is just sick but that is me. So the 8600 is pretty comparible to the 960? Might have to look into them... Thanks man...

Any reason why the 8400 were not popular?? Defects or they just weren't liked. Long as there is no problem I could care less if ppl like it or not... Cause it looks good to me....

Any love for the P8MP?????????

Thanks again all

I just got a 8400 for $200 and I love it. I use to buy nothing but Kenwood but something would always break on them and would be lucky to get 2 years out of it.

Oh..don't get me wrong..I will take a Pioneer 8400 any day..I was just mentioning this in case someone knew something I didn't..I just always had the impression that you either go with the 7500 or 9400 not the 8400. I have no idea where that idea came from but someone said it?? I love all of pioneers stuff..so you cannot go wrong my friend

I bought a P840MP (Premier version of the 8400) the week they were released 3 or so years ago, and to this day it is still going strong. Never had one problem with it. Not nearly the features that the 860/960 offer, but a great deck none-the-less.

Any love for the P8MP?????????

The price you are paying is all for the looks. The features aren't that impressive. Spend a little bit extra and get a ton more functionality IMO.

Ive had a few Sony decks, few Pioneers, and 3 Alpine Decks. And now own my first Kenwood KDC-X969. All the decks were either top or second to the top models. Sony just plain ******, it had terrible sound and terrible options. Alpine was good, stable, but didnt really like it that much. The Pioneers were great but a little spendy. My kenwood deck is by far the best one Ive owned, for 2 years now.

Well, for what its worth.....here is my opinion.

Premier DEH-P8mp - Nice looks, 6 volt pre out, only a 16 bit d/a converter though.

Pioneer DEH-P8400 - Only 4 volt pre out voltage, double face has had problems, and only one color display.

Premier DEH-P960 - 6 volt pre outs, 24bit converter, nice looks, but again....double face has had problems.

Premier DEH-P860 (what I chose to go with) good looks, 24bit converter, 6 volt pre outs, and multi-color display.

If I had to choose between the P8mp and the 8400 I would choose the p8mp hands down. Better display, better and more reliable face style, and higher pre out voltage. Sadly, neither of these decks have 24bit converters but the P8 is nice deck none the less. Plus, the P8 has a customizeable display. Oh and also the p8 comes with a 2 year warranty as opposed to the 8400's 1 year warranty.

My kenwood was better than my pioneer. But my sony is better than both. Next Alpine, it better blow them all out the water.

Not to get off topic a little..BUT ADAM71..You don't give any props to the Pioneer DEH-P9400Mp and 940MP...I have *****d myself to get one of those for years (finally got one last week)...I think those are the Flagship for Pioneer H/U's..I LOVE THE OTHERS..But the 9400's are sweet...."THE HARDEST H/U TO WIN ON EBAY"... they are in DEMAND even over the newer models..Just my opinion!!!!????

Whoa!! You got me wrong man :D . I was just giving some features of the decks that "kickerlivingloud" was inquiring about. By no means was I disrespecting the 940. No one asked about it so I didn't mention it. I think the 940 was the best deck Pioneer has come out with in a long time and probably the best deck for quite a while since they stopped making the 940 and 9400. Its sort of an injustice to call the 960 its replacement when its not even close the 940 in quality, case in point, the 960 retails for 300 less than the 940 did at its original release. One of my best friends thats an installer at a Premier dealer has a 940 and I love it. But I just wanted something different seeing how I've seen the 940 so many times in his vehicle.
