Im lookin to buy a complete system for my 98 dodge ram quad cab but i dont kno much about car electronics. It already has the upgraded sound system from the factory so i dont know if i need door speakers or not, the front are 6x9s and the rear are 6s im pretty sure. My price range is around $1,000, its not much but ive been lookin online and ive found some sites that sell some stuff for pretty cheap and i think i could get a system for around there. If you dont mind just tellin me wat yall would get if u were in my situation.

My opinion real quickly of the top of my head

Keep Stock head set for now.
Replace Front Speakers for 6.5 components -$150
2 channel amp-$150
2 10" subs in box -$300
Mono amp 500watts-$150
Install -$250

+$50 misc.
$1000 + or -

I was in the market for a similiar set up a few years ago and "personally" I found MTX to be my best bet for quality..Price...Desired amp power range and TRUCK Sub options..but others may disagree.

You probably want to keep some of the stock stuff..but after about 6 months of trying to do that in my set up I realized it was pointless..if you have over a $600 budget..it's time for Components...maybe keep the stock locations but do not just "use" those alone.
Just my opinion though

so far i got this

1 re se 10" = ~130 shipped (ebay\used) 600w @2
1 directed 1100d = 220 shipped (ebay\factory referb) 1000wx1 @1 \ 800w @2
1 CDT ef-51 cv 5.25 = 150 shipped (tplaya07 on the forums)
1 CDT cl-62 cf 6.5 = 150 shipped (tplaya07 " " ')
1 crappy pyle 4ch amp = 40 (local\used)
1 rockford HU (broke) ~250 shipped (ebay new in box)
install = myself ~50 for boxes ~50 for wires (www.knukonceptz.com)

thats $1040 and i only have a 10 =) i spend more on my components than i did my sub =) rofl. but its plenty loud for me, and its sealed. im bout to port it, and its gonna slam.

just DO YOUR RESEARCH! dont limit yourself to certain things. look around and see what people use, read reviews and dont sell yourself short on crappy equipment if its $10 cheaper. you will regret it (like i have spend money on crappy coaxial speakers and they broke\systems from joe schmoe locally before i knew what i was doing)
