is there any advantage to having round coax's (5 1/4) over 5x7/6x8's? i need to replace my factory front door speakers which are 5x7. i went to 3 different shops and was told that round coax's are better??? can anyone clarify this. thanks

Yes, rounds sound better..... My 6 1/2's up front sound way better than my 4x6's in the back....thats purely on SQ

Oval speakers distort sooner than round speakers when you increase the volume.

That's why plate speakers are cool. They have a two round speakers (mid & tweet) installed on a "plate" that will drop right in to your oval factory openings (4x6, 5x7,6x8). Kinda like a psuedo-component set with much better sound than oval speakers.
I had the Boston 746 4 x 6 plate speakers, and they were awesome.
