Does a lower Hz put out more SPL or does a higher Hz put out more SPL

Because i have a cd with test tones, steps, sweeps, and burps

it depends on what the box is tuned at and what the resonant frequency of the vehicle is!

generally 40-60 hz for spl. depends ALOT on the install and system itself. there are quite a few threads agout finding resonant freq's.... and what to do with them once you've found them :thumbupw:

generally.. low tunings are MUCH harder to work with..

more **** blows up, more **** breaks, more **** flexes.. when working with sub 50hz tones..

contrary to belief... most vehicles do not have a giant acoustical signature that you can go by to pick a frequency... the giant peak you'll find in testing.. is mostly due to enclosure and aiming :)

most competitors focus their efforts into the 50-65 hz area for streetish installs, and 60-80 hz for extreme instances..

The thing is, I dont havea ported box. It is sealed.

There are no frequencies that are 'louder' than others inherently. The are all recorded at 0dB usually. In your car however, there will definately be some frequencies that are heard to be louder than others by both the mic and your ears.

Port your box, dont run sealed unless you want to be dissapointed...

I ran sealed and i was pleased with my numbers
133.7 - pass 1
133.7 - pass 2
135.4 - pass 3

higher frequencies will hit louder. for example 55 will hit better than 35.

even though 35 sounds louder, your being judged on pressure 35hz will not create as much pressure as 55, no matter what your box is tuned at. most competitors run 50+ hz. even the big boy db drag kids.

Yea well I ended up going into a competition and making three passes. 1st pass was 133.7 sealed, 2nd was the same, and 3rd was 135.4 sealed. So I think I did pretty good for 2 12s and a 200 watt amp. I ran from about 43 Hz to about 53 Hz

Wrong!

If 55hz is ALWAYS generating more pressure, why is it that my box does a legal 151.5 @ 43hz But barely manages a 150.1 at 55hz??

Yes, this metering has been done on MY termlab PRESSURE sensor...

And if you still dont believe me I will be at the NOPI jupiter 3x event late tomorrow where I can show you first hand.

Because you smell like a wet dog that rolled in squirrel diarrhea?

Point is, you cannot predict what is going to be louder, without testing the environment...

your box probably isnt efficient at 55hz

has nothing to do with the box's effeciency. I've played with all frequencies from 70hz down to 38hz. Tunings from 32hz to 45hz. Universally the loudest tuning has been 40-42hz burping at 43-47hz. This is a finding not isolated to my truck.

Every other 4runner that I've known also likes very low notes from 38hz to 42hz. Thus far my 4runner has the highest frequency of any other 4runners that I know of. Also why do you thing that the suburbans in street struggle to get their loudest notes above 37hz?? It's because in that vehicle the wavelength that transfers the most ACOUSTICAL ENERGY to the mic is a fairly low frequency.

Also spl is NOT a measurement of pressure. It is a measurement of absolute pressure change from static. Saying 55hz has more pressure than 30hz is like saying all v6 engines make more power than inline engines. It's total bullshit as that depends on the installation. The sad part is you know this but wont admit it.

I have a hell of a lot more experience on the meter than most people ever will have on this forum in their life times so i just think I might know what im talking about here.....

ps - even a chick friend of mine knows you're wrong. Of course she also was #2 in the world in 2000 in db drag street 1-2 and then held the world record in db drag street 1-2 back in 2001...:D

pps - I'm not trying to offend you or anything but rather show you how that was a wrong statement. There is no shame in being wrong about anything, belive me I've been wrong plenty of times, however this is not one of those times ;)

instead of droning out a long winded response..

I'll just agree with Steve..

because hes right...

btw... I play 41hz... ;)

You missed it. It was this past weekend.

Getting there for me took 6 hrs of highway driving.

I took SR 72, intent on taking SR 70, only to be stopped 2 miles from Arcadia being told that SR70 was impassable to any vehicle short of an abrahms tank. So I drove 25 odd miles back to I 75, the drove 60 odd miles south to punta gorda, took SR 74 across to I27 then went up the backside of okeechobee. Now THAT is dedication and some heavy map reading/navigation!!

SPL top 10:

1. Pro Truck Street Max 3/4 - 157.9
2. David Mackey Super Street 1/2 - 157.8
3. Step Harris Super Street NW - 156.4
4. Ronal Murphy Super Street 5+ - 152.5
5. Me Street C - 151.6
