Crossover advice needed

Recently, I bought a pair of Alpine SPX-177A two-way component car speakers with 6-1/2” mid/woofer, soft dome tweeter, and crossover. I read that the drivers are made by Vifa.

Here’s my dilemma: The crossover assemblies are too big to fit within the door compartment. Many people have successfully mounted crossovers inside the door of this car model, but these are just too big.

Questions:

1. Can I substitute a smaller, ready made crossover that will work with these speakers?
2. Can I build a smaller crossover with parts from parts express or radio shack and only basic knowledge of electronics?
3. Do you have any other ideas?

I may be able to return the speakers and start over, but would like to make them work if possible.

Dude, the xovers can go ANYWHERE in your vehicle.....they don't have to go in your door. You can mount them to the underside of your dash. You can mount them in your kickpanel area. You can mount them in your center console. You can mount them under your seats. You can mount them back by the amps. You can mount them inside of your dash. You can mount them in your glovebox. This list goes on and on and on and on. You can mount them anywhere you find room that they fit into.

So, long story short....don't switch anything out. Just find a new place to mount the crossovers :)

Alpine makes the best crossovers, I wouldn't switch them with anything. As squeak said they can be mounted anywhere, I have mine mounted in my kick panels. Just find some place to mount them... under the seat would be good and run the wire under the carpet.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll look for other locations. Routing the cables from door to body in this car (MINI Cooper) is not easy, and I was trying to avoid it if possible. I would like to keep the Alpine crossovers, though.
