My dad and I were coming home from town (just got a new tach) and a 5.0 mustang pulled up at the light beside me, racing his engine... well my dad was drinking some beer and he went up to take a drink and the light turned green... (I have a 66' chevelle ss with stock 396 bored .40 over, edelbrock carb.... etc.. too much to list with this quickie.. gotta post and go...) anyways, it turned green and we both went, dads beer spilled all over him, when i looked over, he was drowning in his beer.... it was hillarious... but anyways, the mustang had nothing on me, (not trying to brag) he got me on take off, only cause my tires were spinning, then i caught 2nd and grabbed 3rd right when i was passing him.... so after it was obvious that i had more than him i slowed down and let him by, dad was laughing his *** off and said **** son, who taught you how to race... I said, well I kinda....... ummmmmm go to hollysprings every once in a while... (local strip).. i am running in the mid 7's, lst slip was a 7.49 (1/8th) but i gotta go for now, later...

um yeah... u run mid 7s on a street legal car, and u got beaten off the line by a 5.0 due to WHEELSPIN. wheelspin, if u weren't educated, makes times SLOWER. and if u just got him in 3rd, nm this is full of bs. pictures speak louder than words :idea:

ok... 1/8 mile accounts for what? think about this buddy. u run a 16 second 1/4. with all those mods. how the hell is that fast? a stock honda civic is faster than that. my 1996 altima is that fast. and ur runnin a 66 chevelle with an edelbrok carb and too many parts to list? i think ur running a CHEVETTE, not a CHEVELLE.

with all due respect...read the first page, i made a mistake

PV Audio

1/4 mile = well under 16 seconds ...
how the hell is that? chevelles arent made for top end.. let alone that motor.

Acidburn
07-26-2004, 12:56 AM
ok, during the first 1/8 the car has to accelerate up to speed, say 80 mph, it takes time to do that, if its going 80 at the start of the second 1/8 even if it doesn't accelerate any more it will still have a faster time than the first 1/8
therefore, his 1/4 is less than 14 sec since the first 1/8 is 7 sec and the second 1/8 will be less than the first

Phatillusion
07-26-2004, 01:13 AM
Time = Distance/Average Speed ...

Time = 7.49 seconds, Distance = 1/8 mile

7.49 = 0.125/S
S = 60*60*0.125/7.49
S = 60 mph

So he averaged 60 mph over the first 1/8 mile, you think he'll average less than 60 mph over the second 1/8 mile ?

Ah, good old physics.

xchasecx

i dont understand why people dont understand a dragstrip..... you do a small burnout before you go to the line, TO GET YOUR TIRES STICKY then at the line they spray some sort of glue to KEEP FROM SPINNING THE TIRES... I dont see anyone going around spraying glue at a stoplight... and i didnt have my slicks on it.. i just had my regular grips, i cant run slicks with everyday driving, well i can but it wont be street legal!!.. ok here are my mods... brodix aluminum heads, slightly domed pistons, hooker headers, comp cam, edelbrock 750 CFM carb, edelbrock intake manifold, MDS ignition with rev limiter, and a home made hood scoop

Doubleing the ET of the 1/8th is just nuts, wtf are you thinkin. In the1/4 the first 1/8th the car is starting out at 0mph, but when it hits the second 1/8 (to make a quarter mile) it doesnt restart at 0 its still going and going faster.

If i am not mistaken to get somewhere CLOSE to a 1/4th time by looking at a 1/8th time, you do something similar to the following:

7.49/2 which is 3.745 take that and add it to my original number which is 7.49 and you get 11.24 (11.235 rounded up) that seems close to when I ran at byhalia last year, but i dont quite remember.... If i can round up around 3g's then I am going to get a good supercharger for it... that should boost me up to a ten sencond car.... i hope it does anyways! also when i drive my car in the city its really hard to make tunrs cause i got the diff locked with 4.11's... YALL ARE MISSING THE POINT... my dad went up for a drink and as soon as he did, we went, and got a face full of old milwaukee.... anyways.... lol

i read the whole thread from start to finish but i just wanted lemans to shut the fucĸ up alreadyI read the whole thread and think you should leave lemans alone. He thought one thing was corrected and even said thanks for correcting me sorry for my lack of understanding.

This is how people learn. I have said some stupid things in my life, sometimes immediately realizing it and wished I could take it back. I doubt he will ever make the same mistake.

Lemans, just leave it alone. Don't sink to others levels.

its not the fact that he was wrong, it was more or less the fact that he was acting like he was john force and knew everything about drag racing.Confidence is not a weakness IMO. He made a mistake he admitted it. He is a young person and still learning to communicate and play nicely with others. Hell at any age it takes effort sometimes.

While it's one thing to say you are not correct (and he was way off). There is no need for 5 people to tell him he is stupid/shouldn't talk/etc. He thought one thing and now stands corrected. I know none of you so what do I care either way, just an observation.

Lemans just because he runs a little slower then 8 in teh 1/8th of a mile doesnt mean he is gonna automatically get a 16... with a 7.8 second 1/8th mile time he is prolly running high 13's low 14's in the 1/4.... remember...

higher gear = higher speed = faster time.....

Pretty fast for a 3600-3800lbs car.......

xchasecx

my car has been on around a 800 lb diet... i have taken everything off of the car and sandblasted EVERY piece of frame, and body. Repainted the frame , and the body. Cut out un-necessary (SP?) stuff... you wouldnt believe how much stuff would come off of a car like that..... and last night I went to Byhalia (1/4) and ran a 11.86 with my holley 1100 dominator carburetor (dont use it quite often due to methenol prices locally... 11$ a gallon)

7's in a street car is great....

that's why there are so many times on a drag slip...for instance.
light tells reaction time, then you have 60', which shows how well you are planting the power, 330' same, 1/8th and MPH and 1/4 and MPH. Some cars have terrible 60' due to slow, or lack of sticking. But they can MPH BIG time on the big end of the track. Heck my 4200 lbs truck had a 1.81 60' and ran the 1/4 at 12.98 at 105.
But I have buddies that can 1.30 60' on the REAR tires.....

so all the times show everything...you could have a 10 second car get beat on the street by a stock Honda if he goes up in smoke...street racing proves nadda IMHO, because usually the fater car, can never hook up.

tell that to the local drag racing guys.

You aint ****, unless you run 10's on the street.

Most of their cars, are 8-10 sec cars... I know two people off the top of my head w/ a 396LT1 stroker and a 150shot, and a 383LT1 stroker w/ a 250 shot. 750hp and 800lbs of torque..and he street raced it..

They dont race on your street tires. They race on DOT, or DR's
