View Full Version : XXX and Box Situation

Well, it's finished. The box for my 15" xxx is complete.. or mostly. It ended up about 4.2 ft^3 after port displacement, tuned to roughly 32hz. The hole for the sub has not been cut, it was sealed with screws and liquid nails used together. the edges of the port were rounded on the inside(I did slack on getting rid of all 90s in the port though). The box is braced with a plus sign shape of bracing using 1" diameter wooden dowels. The dowels are not actually touching, but are near each other. The box is EXTREMELY sturdy and protected. The box is **** near perfect in my eyes. I think we measured everything and checked it twice, except for.. well one small issue. The trunk opening isn't big enough to get the box in without removing the spare tire and jack. Even then, it is VERY tricky and involves some jamming to get it in the trunk. Then the spare/jack cannot be replaced. Well needless to say I can't have this.. luckily the xxx has not been ordered yet..

I have to make a choice now, seeing as that box is clearly too large for my trunk (my dad says I can't leave the spare out--I do agree though.. I should have it). I will not put it on my back seat. I don't really know what to do.

Heres what I've come to..

1) Sell this box, make a sealed box for a 15" xxx (re recommends 2 cubes).

2) Sell this box, make a ported box for a 12" xxx (re recommends 2.1 cubes.. I'm guessing after port displacement)

3) Figure out a way to get the box into the trunk without removing my spare(I don't see it happening)

Thoughts opinions? Which situation might work better of 1 and 2. I'm more for LOUD, but with some decent SQ.. and if you have a way to do 3 let me know :)

BTW Car is a 99 Grand Prix GT if you're wondering.

i would say get a 12xxx in a ported box ported is louder than sealed a 12xxx in a ported box should be a lot louder than a 15xxx in a sealed

we had the same problem when installing 2 10s in a sealed box in my buddys mustang, it was a nightmare but we did get it in...the solution was taking out the back seats and sliding it in that way then replacing the seats. His spare is very difficult to get out but at least its still in there. Not sure if this is possible but just a suggestion
