How can I find out my db Results?

Ed Lester
04-22-2008, 10:27 AM
you can find your dB result one of 3 ways.

1. attend a competition from any of the SPL organizations. dB Drag, USACI, IASCA, NSPL, MECA, or ven just a small local comp.

2. Find a shop or a friend with a meter and see if they will let you test. Some shops charge for this.

3. Buy your own meter. The Termlab is the best and a USB setup could be $650. The AC190 is also good

my box is big but low i take up alot of my trunk but is only 11" tall meaning all the air thats pushed over top of the box instead of squeezing around the sides and top ..

also i notice i did that number with a blown sub and weak electrical(Dropping to 11.7) but these are excuses and i will learn to correct my mistakes

FYI 150+ coming soon you can bet on that one..

The only difference I've seen between the "old" TL sensor and the newer one is maybe .2 db's, nowhere near 3 db's in difference. Now if you were talking about the AudioControl meters then 3 db's would be pretty accurate. The old AC180 is about 7-10 db's higher than the AC190, depending on the sensitivity settings.

Not sure. I know there was an AC mic that was like crazy at times in readings. But slap show was/is using a newer ac 180 an 190 both a square in shape just like the TL. The 180 was like 1-2dbs off and the 190 was like almost dead on with the TL.

Slapshow uses the AC 190, that looks almost like the TL. The AC180 is a small pen like microphone type sensor. Depending on who is running the meter the sensitivity can be raised so people will see bigger numbers, I know they do this with the old 180, not sure about the 190. The 190 is normally about .2 db's off from the TL. At a show a couple weeks ago we put the TL at the glass and the old AC180 on the floor and metered him with both meters at the same time and he was doing 160 on the TL and 170 on the 180.

I know that slapshow uses the slp190 its called now. I thought that there was a spl180 that looks the same. No Im not talking about the small pen one. Its square also. But I must be mistaken then. The TL and AC 190 I have found them to be dead on. Some ppl say .2 as you or even 1 db off. I havent found that to be the case.

not happy with results i guess i've got to build i new box and tune it alot higher and see what i get. any suggestions on box size and what to tune it to??

For a daily driver box, 750 watts and with music thats a decent number. Most guys I've metered are around 135-138 range with a set up like yours. I wouldn't expect to get much louder without buying better equipment and upgrading the stock electrical system.

well i thought since i hit s 140.6 with that small of a sealed box i thought building this big of a ported box would get me another 2 db or so but i only got .2 db gain.
and i'm going to run 1/0g to my two amps and i've kinda got the big three but the alt to battery is 4 and same with ground to chassy. so i'm going to do that and see what all that helps with. also i might get another battery to put in the trunk but i really don't want to put to much more into this.

i know it's my box. its nothing special i just threw it together so i could get the subs playing. immacomputer designed me a box that i'm building now and i'm pretty sure it's going to kick ***!! its right around 4 cu ft tuned to 36 hz and i'm acually not sure how much port area it has but it's got quite a bit. i wish i could make it a little bigger but thats all i can i get since it's in an integra.

or yea also another this thats killing me on my box i have now is i only have like 42 or so of port area and there's only like two inches between the port and the bottem of the subs so i new box is really going to help me out

I had to many set-ups to post numbers, lol.

Probably the most impressive was I scored a 151.3 from a single 12" Soundstream SPLX Quad 1 on 2 Sundown 1500D's and 1 Kinetik 2000. But that was not my highest recorded score from a set-up in my car.

In the trunk no less.. :D

My headliners not installed and I have NO sound deadener, so it rattles and flexes like crazy. I know after I install some dynomat and build a blow-through it'll get a good bit louder. I hope

thats definitly possible i had 2 12" old cvr's in a small sealed box with a 400 watt crappy sony amp and it was doin 141's when i was testing to find the res freq of my jeep. ( on a term lab )

I used to have a single 12" CVX on 750 watts doing 144.2 on the floor and 142.9 at the glass on the termlab, so a pair of subs can definitely do those numbers.

For a legal DB Drag/IASCA run, you can be the only person in the vehicle. Not sure about any other organization.

Yea I was thinking about that...I think I'll do testing with just me in the car and then me outside the car with the seats still in to see if any of those are louder than with the seats out

It amazes me how many people think it's amusing to give a noob stupid incorrect answers because they think it's funny.

For your information, you CAN NOT get your decibel level checked at ANY WalMart, this is just bad info from asshats. Contact every local car audio shop you have near you and see if any of them have a meter, whether it's a Termlab or one of the AudioControl meters. If you can't find one close, then look for the closest USACi or dB Drags competition and find out that way.

It amazes me that people dive straight into a thread and have no clue what the **** they're talking about before asking ******* questions. This site is full of information but asshats like him want to be spoon-fed. Do you think they keep threads for years because it's cool? No, because believe it or not, secretly hidden within this website are years of questions and legitimate answers. Get the **** out of your *** and stop playing superhero.

Ok ********, you can see he's a noob with only 3 posts, you think he has any clue how to search for answers on this site? I've posted on this thread before, so it's not like I "Dived in" to this thread without knowing the topic, the title of the thread is pretty obvious. You obviously enjoy playing games with people and don't really care about helping people out. This site is here to "spoon feed" noobs and help educate anyone else looking for answers, get used to it.

And a boomstick isn't exactly a db meter for use in a car, it's extremely inaccurate compared to an actual meter. Those would be lower than an AudioControl 180.
