In my 99 taurus, the factory uses 5x7's. Could 6.5's (back and/or front) or 6x9's (back only) be installed without altering the rear dash/front door panels?

they can... just you have to either fit it where you can fit at least 3 screws into the speaker through the metal of the door... or make a plate which would be better...
