Well after hearing my bro's 4 18's for the past 3 years i decided i wanted some bass. This what i came up with.

Changed my mind, i didnt like how low on port area i was..... so this is the new setup. It cost half as much and if i like it i will update it to twice the power and hdc3's :D
8 soundqubed hds210's
1 crescendo 5500
3 datasafe hx 400's
Box will be 9.6 cubes with 171 inches of port tuned to 40hz.

This is not a box for burps, its suppose to be a ground pounder, the box will be all birch with a double baffle front, all sides will be braced with 2x4's.

My Galant is a flimsy pos for bass, so..... the doors are getting glassed and the rest of the car a layer of secondskin sludge. I will have a removable fiberglass mold of the floor under the backseat. It will screwed down to the stock seatbelt holes and the box will be glassed to it. I will have removable fiberglass molds of the trim panels that I glass to the box with fleece so the whole face is sealed from the back. the box face will also be glassed to the roof ( im taking out the headliner so I don't ruin it.)

I will have a floor from the front of the box extending to the back of the front seats, this will take up around 2 cub ft of cabin space and make the port load off the false floor and back seats.

hopin for over 150 at the headrest easy. Comments and criticisms welcome.

Thanks guys! Lol i havent done much so far. I did some research and glassing the floor doesnt help, im glad because that wouldve been 30 hours of work. Now im just going to glass and deaden the doors and deaden the roof. When my roommate gets back with the saw i can start on the box and hopefully dry fit it together.

oh and i posted a couple of pics up top.

decided to go soundqubed, subs are only 79 a piece and i have perfect room for 8 and the perfect port area. If it bangs hard enough ill put hdc3's in and double power.

yea but 1450 dollars with not enough port area vs 632 dollars and perfect port area. the soundqubed subs have more xmax too.

If it's not a burp box why the 40hz tunning?
Because itll still play low. Every other setup ive done with aq has been tuned to 38 and peaked around 36 or so. I dont forsee any phase issues, ill have all 8 subs mounted above the port with the port on the bottom. Nominal load will be .5 ohms, going to be running one big amp for now. I will test it on my brothers crescendo 5500 then hopefully get a ct sounds 7000.

I wandered the same thing I'm thinking space issues

Its very very close on space, each 10 will see 1.2 cubes net tuned to 40hz with 21.375" port area. Im guessing this setup will do a 153+ easy in the high 30hz range at the headrest. I helped my friend do a similar build with 5 sa 10's and it was doing 151's at 35hz with 3kw and the wall not fully sealed from the back of the car.

Lol it looks intense. I got the box in the car after i took my door off. I got it hooked up on a kicker 200.4 and honestly it was pretty loud not even sealed off at all. These subs are very efficient. Even on like 30-40 watts a piece they were movin. Gonna put a saz 3000 on it tonight and hopefully itll bang. :D

Thanks, im pretty happy with it the way it has came out, esp since this was my first wall and first time glassing. Should be loud, 800 oz of motor force and a touch more cone area than 2 18's on about 11k clamped when i get my amps in.

If it sounds good im gonna take all the subs out, carpet the face, paint the port and sand and bondo the crap spots on the fiberglass walls.

Well tested her out today. I was dissapointed and pleased with it at the same time lol. I tried it out on my bros crescendo 5500 at .25 ohm. Amp was protect happy without the car revved. I got a ton of power out of it unclipped though. Box was hella loud from 42 hz to about 62hz. It faded at 40 and died in output at 35. Same at about 63 and up, of course that might have been the crossover. Moved some air at the lower hz but had no output. But holy shat, from 42 and up it hurts. Got a small youtube vid im posting up, had the volume at 3/4 car at idle, open the door at the end and unloaded the subs and it made it protect.

Like i said, this was not near clipping and the voltage was holding the amp back. Im going to try to put 4 amps on this setup @ .5 ohm each amp and i think itll be crazy. Maybe 4 aq 3500.1's :D ?

We burped it for around an hour on tones and the subs werent warm at all :) thats 8 coils for ya.

But im gonna keep it like is and put a layer of second skin sludge on the doors along with 2 layers of mat and see if it lowers the resonance of the cabin enough to pick up the lows. If not, a 5.5 inch port extension is going on it.

Vid is uploading, should be posted in a few, like i said this is 3/4 volume of the amp unclipped. No idea on power but im guessing 3.5 kw or so.

Idk man, ive never had a car that plays that high. It hurt even at 55 hz, it was like a whole body hurt lol, a 151 or so at 35hz just hurts your ears. This HURTS. Im gonna say over a 152 at the headrest. Outlaw usac style i bet its 153+ easy. its not made for numbers either, port on the bottom is good for daily. My car just has no deadning in it at all. So hopefully the resonance will lower when i deaden it.

Me and my bro ride in vehicles that do 151's or so on a daily basis and this is on another level.

I cant wait to put some real money in this thing and do hdc3's on like 16kw. Gonna break ****. :D

You sure that baffle isn't flexing? Might consider putting another layer on the front. If you flush mount the subs you lose nothing and gain more strength (plus flush mounting usually gains on the meter).

I didnt see any flex. Ill have to look closer next time i test it. I was really just listening to it this time.

Id rather put 3 big pieces of all thread on the front hooked to the back. Honestly i hate working with glue and wood. Metal is more my thing.

But like i said the face seemed solid, there is so many subs so close to each other on the face i think they add bracing. Every other side has a 2x4 bracing it so i think they are good.

My car has never played lows worth a crap and ive had 3 trunk systems in it. So idk maybe the resonance is just really high.

icweiner
05-11-2014, 11:23 PM
Hmmmm. After some reading it seems i should gain on the lows if i get it sealed off better. So im gonna check the whole wall out tomrrow for leaks. Its seams really sealed tight now though, itll make the sunroof move from pressure shutting the front door with the trunk and back doors open so idk. Might brace the side walls better and see that helps. I really dont wanna tune it lower because i like the way the highs sound now.

Well more testing, ill see what happens tommorrow.

Ssf was off. Yea both door open ******. Never tried both windows down or sealed up. I did the frequency testing with 1 door open.

Idk maybe these subs just act different. I know when ive switched from sdc 2.5 to hdc3's in the past in the same box it played and sounded lower. Box, wall and car still need alot of work so ill see if i can get the lows. Gonna glue a brace to help the window flex too.

Finally decided on amps, going with crescendo symphony's. Gonna order 1 for now and see how it does at .5 ohm. If it isnt protect happy and stays decently cool ill order 3 more.

No updates yet guys. Got 1 out of 8 amps im gonna run though.

Kicker cx 1200., beast *** amp, clamped 1253 watts at 10.5 volts wired @ 1 ohm rising to 2.2. Voltage was a rundown batt just to test lol. So 8 of them ill be seeing 8kw clamped EASY with no clipping.

Going to run 4 hx400 batts, 8 cx 1200.1's @ 1ohm and a maxx link to hook them all up. About to order a new HU and a steve meade CC1 to set it all up, going to run that new steve meade clipping indicator too since kicker amps dont have one.
