Any pictures of the install? I've got a pair of planars here that I really liked but haven't had the balls to cut for them in my Jeep.

No. I had them on a dipole baffle in the house. For the car, I thought about A pillars (I already glassed in some little 2", 4 speaker arrays in them), but I think these would do better on the dash. They only need a little 3" deep enclosure if you want to cross them down around 500, otherwise, just tack them down somewhere.

I loved the sound and efficiency but how did you find the sensitivity to listening on and off axis? Also what impedance?

IMO if you have a good spot for planars they're really tough to beat pairing with a robust midbass driver. They're totally slept-on in the car audio world.

Only at really high frequencies could I tell on-axis from off-axis. They are 4 ohm. I would like to try them in a car, but I'm in the middle of a horn install, and I'm afraid the horns would drown them out.

Somebody do something different for unheard of sq in a car

Laid them on dash (just a mock-up) with full windshield reflection, 2 each parallel for 2 ohm load. Sounded awesome if you like clean highs. On/off axis didn't mean anything in that layout. They were pretty darn loud like that, too. I compared them with horns. They are much clearer--more tingle and sparkle. But the horns are ear-bleeding loud. I got to have the ear-bleed. If someone wants ultimate SQ, you will not find cleaner, I'd be willing to bet. This is your deal. Make me an offer. I also have 8 ohm versions of the PDR if the loads workout better for you.

To match up with a rare set of ID 8" mids I have (1/5 prototype sets), would you recommend a pair, or two sets? My 8s would be in the doors and I have an Audison LRx5.1k for power (50x2 @ 4ohm 1/2, 160x2 @ 4ohm 3/4 on the first 4 channels, more @ 2ohm obviously)...

I'd go with a pair on each side. That gets pretty loud and still clean.

4 left. Also have 4 8-ohm PDR version. No trades right now as I'm raising cash to get us by when my wife has surgery at end of month.
