The system will be going in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT

Here's what I'm currently looking at:

SUBS

JBL MS-52C - (I'm still not sure if I want these)
JBL MS-52C 5-1/4" 2-Way MS Component Car Speakers System (MS52C) (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_45047_JBL-MS-52C.html)

AMP
PIONEER GM-D8604

HEAD UNIT - I'm still looking around but here's are a couple I'm looking at.
Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X397
Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X397 In-Dash Single DIN USB/CD Car Stereo Receiver Made for iPhone (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_65872_Kenwood-eXcelon-KDC-X397.html)
OR
Pioneer DEH-X6500BT
Pioneer DEH-X6500BT CD/MP3/USB Car Stereo w/ Bluetooth & Remote (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_60592_Pioneer-DEH-X6500BT.html)

This puts me at right around $600. (Not including wires and installation, etc..)
So I'm curious what it would look like if I were to get a "competition grade" system compared to what I listed above? If you guys could put together a list similar to what I did except competition grade equipment that would AWESOME.

Here's the dimensions I need:
Front speakers - 5.25"
Rear speakers - 6 x 9"
Subs - I'm looking for two 10" subs

Thanks I really appreciate the help.

Don’t buy rears and spend more on your front stage, it's not quantity it’s quality you want and that goes for everything you listed. I would do one good sub and not in a box you have in your closet.

Ok well one of my rear speakers is blown so it needs to be replaced anyways. Also I have a legit box, it's not cardboard. lol

If the box is a prefab. It's not legit if you can put one of the stock fronts in the rear that's blown run them off the deck or just pull them out completely , components up front and one good sub in the right box will sound better and louder. Than 2 crappy subs in a prefab also everything you listed will work but is mediocre at best and that's being nice You might wanna ask around more if you want decent equipment Like I said it will work but prolly won't sound very good

I'm guessing a 'prefab' box is just a wooden enclosure box? If so that's what I have. And it will fit two 10" subs. But ya i'm def going to keep looking around.

You can get a custom one made for $175-$225 shipped and would be much better

Yeah that's too much. I'll probably just stick with the box I have now and then upgrade later.

If you can do it yourself you could probably end up paying way way less. The box I made cost roughly $100. And that is because I bought 2 sheets of MDF, paint/primer. If you just buy 1 sheet and decide not to paint it you can do it cheap

EDIT: But i understand some people cant do this, prefabs work fine too as long as its not terrible

what did I say that would add alot of money? All I said was don't get rears and spend that on the front stage, and suggested to get one sub with a good box.

Maybe you didn't read my post. With the setup I have above I'm already at around $600. Adding a custom box would put me WAY over my budget.

But it's still good to know that I have that option if I changed my mind on something or wanted to upgrade it later.

No I haven't purchased anything yet. Sorry if that was unclear at all. I thought I had made it pretty obvious that I was still shopping around.

I haven't bought anything yet, but this what I plan on buying as of right now:

HEAD UNIT
Alpine CDE-147BT CD/MP3/USB Car Stereo w/ Bluetooth & Auxiliary (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_68902_Alpine-CDE-147BT.html)

FRONT SPEAKERS
JBL MS-52C 5-1/4" 2-Way MS Component Car Speakers System (MS52C) (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_45047_JBL-MS-52C.html)

AMP
Precision Power PPI P900.5 (p9005) 5-Channel Phantom Car Amplifier (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_38339_Precision-Power-PPI-P900.5.html)

I need help finding subs! I have a sealed enclosure box that can fit two 10" subs. I'm open to the idea of buying 1 awesome sub rather than two highly decent subs. And if the sub isn't 10" then I'm going to have to buy a new box which I'm afraid could put me over my budget. Once I buy the equipment above, I'll have $178 left. So any help or advice would be appreciated.

I have had this Alpine head for about 2 months now, and I like it alot. Splurge the extra 20 bucks and get the remote for it and enjoy.

I'd come up with another hundred, find a halfway decent used sub and get a box worth a d*mn built for it. You would be ten times better off than buying two crappy subs and tossing them in the prefab you have.

BTW, prefab = prefabricated, as in a generically designed box, usually of a poor build quality.

Like a couple other people suggested... Ditch the rear speakers, and the subs you chose. I would probably go with a single 12 and put it in a custom designed/made box.

On a budget? Here's a sub.
HDS212 (http://www.soundqubed.com/HDS212_p_221.html)

Here's an amp for it.
Q1-750 Amplifier (http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-750-Amplifier_p_46.html)

If you wanted to go even further... I would personally put in a little bit more money and go with this:
QC-HF6.5 Component Bundle (http://www.soundqubed.com/QC-HF65-Component-Bundle_p_236.html)

Not only does that come with a component set AND an amp... But it also comes with two sheets of their deadener which is pretty nice stuff. Well worth the extra money compared to what you originally had planned. Sound Qubed definitely makes nice stuff and there customer service is amazing if that matters to you. Free shipping and I got all of my stuff the very next day.

Sell the prefab box for the 10's you already have, get a bit of pocket change back, put in another $100 for a custom built box, and another $60-100 for the wires and you're good to go.

Alright this is what I went with:

Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X397 head unit - $90

JBL MS-52C 5.25 speakers - $150

SoundQubed HDS10 x2 subs - $160

Precision Power P 900.5 5-channel AMP - $210

Total comes out to = $610

And I still have to buy wires. Also I'm wondering how hard it would be for a complete novice (me) to install this system into my car?

If I can't install it then I will have to pay someone else to do it which may put me over my budget, which isn't the end of the world.

I appreciate any feedback!

Yeah..the Kenwood HU is 60 bucks cheaper and it seems like it does the same thing as the alpine. Plus the alpine's usb port was in the back of the unit which I didn't really like. But the main reason was the $$.
