Started off with the simple dash with dash kit and Pioneer 80prs.

Wrapped the front of the screen with plastic so that it was protected from resin. Also taped off the back so that I could create the rear mold.

Marked out the outline of the rear housing of the ipad so I could begin hacking it up. :)http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh209/CandeShop/97-02%20Expedition%20iPad%20mini/3fc5040a-3b9e-48d2-aad4-b3f93fc041e8_zpsf864e4c7.jpg

Put some filler on and began sanding with an 80 then 150. Of course before this the rear housing was glassed in from the back.http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh209/CandeShop/97-02%20Expedition%20iPad%20mini/BAB1E34F-9064-4A22-A2F9-41685ED8D92C-3370-00000137598D357F_zps775eca49.jpg

This is after cutting it down with a 220 then wet sanding with a 220.

Subscribed. Can't wait to see the finished product. I know this one won't be a disaster like mine. I can live thru your work on this one since that's my exact same radio bezel :(

Any updates?

Sorry this is getting worked on between customers (as all fabrication gets halted when quick install customers come in due to being such a small business) and I had high school reunion this weekend.

Updates to be posted soon though. Possibly another of these same dash pieces due in as well.

Still have some higher grit sanding to do to get it as smooth as possible. Then a coat of SEM texture coating, sand with a 400 and then choose the color the dash is going to be.

I dunno why this isn't getting much attention. And lol about the bedliner. You don't have to sand as much with bedliner maaaaan. Why do all that work!

Looks fantastic. Much better than that bediner-ed garbage.

Thanks guys!

All the extra sanding was worth it. Knowing that it's not gonna crack or peel, means shouldn't have a return.

Materials used
3/4 oz fiberglass mat
Poly resin
Ca Glue
Evercoat filler
Sandpaper (80,150,220,400 grit)
Slick sand
SEM texture coating
SEM plastic paint

Only thing left is to modify the lightning cable and perma-mount it and choose the color suede (tan or black) and line the inside with it so the back of the iPad is safe from scratches.

It's an honor that Doug Benards (Mr. Soundmanca) actually likes the fab work as well

I'll be grabbing one from them and making a template with it. Yes I found it easier(cheaper) to grab the front plate that's already been CNC cut for the home button than to fab my own. Now that I've got more orders in I'll need a template and make my own.

Doug is a very cool guy. I've been to his shop 3 times. I bought the ipad pan and front trim piece for an install I did. It made the job way easier than to fab everything.
I even made it on an episode of Amplified when I brought a girlfriend's Fiat 500 install I did to have Doug and Rafa tune the Bit Ten:-)

^ bulllllllshit. I don't.

He fvcked me on my dash. Unuseable. Cande shop stepped up and offered to help me out. Good guy and I have no doubts he takes pride in his work and will do a great job on my dash. MurdaDash had mine for 8months to cut and put glue on. I'm sure I'll have mine back for Christmas :) I can't wait !

I know you were kidding, but seeing his name and seeing what he sent me back, gets to me everytime.

And it in the truck. Just got the color matched (to the tan suede backing) paint so I can remove the fake wood grain from factory and spray the vents tan. Black and Tan color scheme (with highlights of red) throughout the truck.

I'm getting mine done this way too. I didn't put it on console because I wanted this to be a alternate source. A means for a GPS screen. And my kid will be able to enjoy it from the back seat. It would be a hassle having it all the way down low.

That is a mini. It'd be located lower and flow better with the dash if the a/c controls were relocated. That wasn't possible due to the headunit and matrix being located in the center console. Vacuum controlled HVAC switches means that it couldn't go in the upper (roof) console.

Vent color matches the suede liner behind the iPad (to avoid scratches on the rear). Whole truck is in process of being sprayed with the same tan and black color scheme. Thanks for pointing that out though so that I could inform people the right way of doing things.
