i have an alpine 9883 in my old car, and to get to the audio settings you "press" or "click" the rotary dial (it pushes in a few millimeters) and it brings up subwoofer, treble, etc.

i just ordered a used alpine 9887 and the first thing i checked was the rotary dial and it doesn "click" when i press it.

is it supposed to? i believe it is since i looked at both 9883 and 9887 manuals and it says "pressed rotary dial to choose desired mode"

yes it should click. first press is sub level, second and third are fader/balance, and final is defeat on/off.

try removing the knob and seeing if the shaft will depress. sometimes the button gets jammed on too far.

it spins no prob but doesn't click. it shouldn't matter that the units not installed right? nah no way...

took the knob off. scared to take plyers to this thing because i dont know whether to push in or pull out. but don't want to fudge it up since i contacted the seller on ebay saying i'd like to return it. (on a side note, i ******* hate the new photobucket)

so i pulled that little thing out and it came out a little bit. pushed it back it and it clicked but stayed in. but not a stuck in, like a not being pushed back out thing. as if a spring thats supposed to push it back out isn't doing its job.

i've worked on Alpine faceplates before. Pretty easy.

what did you pay for it? will the seller give you some of your money back to cover the cost of the repair (part + labor + shipping)?

i paid $103 shipped for the head unit, harness, cage, and ipod cable. then i bought the remote for i believe $15 and now this part for $7 plus shipping.

also, i bought this knowing the speaker line outs dont work, meaning you can only get this to work with the rcas , which i had planned on doing anyways.
