Just a few pics of my new enclosure built for the Sundown X Series 12" Sub
(I obviously don't have my X yet so I threw an SA-12 in there for now that I had sitting around...)

Tune?

He didn't give me the actual "tune" per-say, but he told me to set my SSF to around 28-30, so my guess would be around 34-36-ish, but in my trunk it has no problem hitting nasty low notes (My Orion does not have SSF, bring on the lows!!! LOL)

hmm.. does the port wrap around the back and gradually flare? because i see few designs with the sub so close to the port like that unless its a flare style port

edit: aha! i knew it. those box designs do wonders my friend. i have a flare 15" box i built was doing 147dbs on 1600watts.

well for an SA, yes. for An X 12, might not be the case. with that subwoofer being designed for high excursion. it will do well

for sure.i dig. mine was a 15" HDC3 with aluminum coil upgrade. it impressed me for a single 15". great design. assuming this is going in a hatch or SUV?

Word don't know much about the X I guess. Also didn't realize it was a flare design so the port just looks bigger. Should do well on some lows I want to do a 8ft^3 @ 30hz kerfed for my btl 100+ sqin port.

yeah, high excursion and FS of 24hz lol. yeah, its "supposed" to act like a barrel and really move some air. also, im assuming you have an 18" btl? what motor? 8ft is a little on the large end.

Yeah this box is too big for an SA, but it doesn't sound bad at all surprisingly LOL... Right now it's in a trunk loading off of the rear of the vehicle with the rear seat center armrest ported through to the interior...

no doubt it sounds good. just easily over powered. be careful of lower frequencies, less back pressure to control excursion.

Have not heard of this horn design, looks like something to look into instead of bandpass. - PWK seems to be hit or miss from what I can tell with others, I was just curious about it, so I gave it a shot (That & I enlisted his services B4 I started coming to this forum...) There are many capable designers / builders around here to help assist you with your needs who won't charge as much as PWK / if at all :greedy: This is most def a design intended to benefit a high excursion sub though, no doubt... This idea would need to be scaled down some for it to really be efficient for subs that don't have as much xmax ;)

Looking to do something of the same as far as excursion amounts go, as long as this Z series lives up to the name may grab one or two of em, NS not quite my quality but yes, there will be plenty of air moving. These flared horn designs are good for this type of woofer?

What is a pwk design? Is it like a type of design or is it just the person/company that marks up the design? And did you build the whole thing yourself and carpet it yourself too? How did you get the sundown logo on the carpet? Or is that like painted into the carpet? Lots of dumb questions but I'm new to box building..... Only built 2 before and trying to learn... Haha gunna be making a new one in a few weeks...

decent output and pretty flat response across the freq band are supposed to be the benefits. Normal ported would be louder overall in most cases, but not as flat/musical.

Some of his enclosures are rather big and some DD/AQ guys have had trouble with overexcursion on relatively low power. I've built a of his designs...

Haha gunna be making a new one in a few weeks... - I had help with this build as all of my tools are in storage until I move into my new house later this summer. The Sundown logo is a custom metal plate I had made from a picture I downloaded on my PC. It's 1/32" thick sheet metal with 1/8" thick plexi over the top of it to protect it. It is flush mounted over the carpet...

pwk is an enclosure designer, but like I said before there are many many good designers & builders around this forum who can design good enclosures for much cheaper, & also build & ship them out to you at very reasonable prices ;)

Here is what I ended up with - I took my temporay sub out that I was using and I gotta say that used SA-12 D4 gets down pretty good for what it is ;) - So on to the change: Tantric HDD - 12" D2 Full Carbon Upgrades & Powder Coated Basket Bought Used From Skip01 (I didn't get the chance to have a new decal plaque made so I just printed something out on my printer and stuck it in there for now lol) - Enjoy

How's it sound compared to the Sundown? IKR it's a shame that pretty basket is hidden lol - That may change in the future though ;) Sound wise it sounds very good SQ wise as did the SA - which is pretty good by my standards and for what I listen to and use my sub(s) for - except with a bit more impact and overall punch felt from the sub - I'm very happy this thing looks sick and sounds great. I do have to say though that those Sundown SA-12's can definitely hold their own - Mine was used when I got it and it is still in perfect functioning condition and looks the same as it did when I received it - And I USED that sub a LOT lolz:cool:

I've had tons of ppl repeatedly pm me asking me about my enclosure so here are the details about it for everyone: This is a ported horn design enclosure from PWK Designs - I told him I was going to run the Sundown X or Z.v4 12" on recommended rms power for either in the trunk of my 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Sedan for DAILY use before he designed it - For whatever that's worth?! lolz - From there it was built by: @ mlstrass (I don't know how to post a mention in here) who did an awesome job at a very reasonable price - Thank you again - That is all - Cheers everyone

I was thinking about doing that, but I think I'd rather build another enclosure - I'm thinking of doing a 4th that ports right into the cabin through the armrest in the back seat (It does NOT fold :( ) with plexi so you can see the basket in the trunk - Thoughts?
