I need some bass! any bass at all! ive searched on google and got frustrated with all the old threads and constant advice to put a sub in the trunk.. I cant and wont put a sub in

Im looking for a set of 4 inside speakers 6.5" that are VERY good on bass.. can u guys help me with some brands and model #s (http://www.caraudio.com/forums/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=s) ....looking for something around 100w rms....I have an aftermarket Pioneer HU and that's all....my budget is $350 for speakers and amp

I drive a heavily modified mitsubishi lancer evolution IX and my trunk space is very limited....I have my battery relocated to the trunk, a strut brace that runs across the back of the car, and its my grocery getter/family activity car so putting even a 10" slim sub box is too big...plus I just don't want the added weight of a box in the trunk because the car is built for speed

ive also flirted with the idea of component set for the fronts and 2 6.5 or 8" subs in the rear deck running off of the same amp?..
right now as it sits the evos factory speakers are 15watts of pure garbage with no bass

so please help me out guys and absolutely no sub boxes please...thanks

cdt make some good options for you in a 6.5 sub ,as well as american bass.i would do an 8 inch sub and components

two 8" subs in the deck and components up front wont drown out the highs too much?

If you want your mids in factory locations to make decent low frequency output you'll need to do a lot of work sound-deadening and probably do some mods to get the depth to fit in the doors.

Looks like he's closing up shop. I'd grab a handfull of these while they last. *EDIT* in fact, I'm going to grab a couple now so I'll have them.

put the sub in a box,use birch ply to cut down on the weight .75 ported at 35 hertz would be perfect on 500 - 1000 rms amp

lol^^^^....no boxes sir...trunk space limited to soccer balls, lil league crap, and field hockey stuff...soccer dad racecar!
if I go the way of subs they have to be in the rear deck and free air subs.....but I am leaning towards just 4 coax speakers amped

Hell..throw in a powered 6/8in Bazooka in there..light weight, and take up very little room, and you can throw whatever on top of them,as long as its not over 200lbs

mylows10
05-22-2013, 12:30 AM
the box would be so small that i wouldn't matter

mrivera78
05-22-2013, 12:45 AM
it would have to be a very small box...under 5" deep...thats the amount of space I have behind the rear brace, and about 13" of height..but at that point doesn't the bass suffer...I wont put the box in front of the brace because I need every bit of space in the trunk...the wife already nags about the big battery box and brace....im basically looking for a luxury car premium sound system "sound"....I remember having a bose system in my Nissan maxima that sounded great amped..

bazooka tubes wont fit behind the brace...4 inside speakers are my best bet...basically my only option

im just looking for a lil better sound than oem...$350 tops on 4 speakers and an amp...that's all I want. best bass producing coax speakers in that price range...im not asking for booming bass nor do I expect it out of 6.5s.. just the best boom for my budget

6.5" bazooka wont fit behind my bar..

Well,You may want to take a look at some budget friendly speakers then..like Polk DB 6.5,and a small 2,or 4 ch used amp.You might be able to get a 4ch alpine, amp kit and speakers for that budget

exact info I was looking for!...I was reading about the dbs how do those compare to the dxi650...I found those for $40 a pair...drastic diff in bass quality?

audiobaun

you may also need to look into a special LOC possibly to add an amp with a stock hu these days..not as easy just to add an external amp with most newer stock hus

The DB sound fantastic for the money.I ran a pair for temp setup on a true 50 rms ea,and sounded excellent/impressive for the bang for the buck

I'm pretty sure you can do that with some shallow mounts.

Pretty nice HU for the money, rca voltage is standard/2v,and adding a 2/4 ch amp isnt an issue with your hu.I have heard the Pioneer hu have an issue with a PICO fuse,so its my understanding with Pioneer..not sure of which other than the 80prs for certain

mrivera78

There is a set(4)6.5 Marine style Polk DB coax on Ebay for $129.00 shipped, and you could pick up a 4 ch JL JX 360,75x4rms amp for $150,or less BNIB Shipped and an 8/or 4ga amp kit for like $50 bucks off of Sonic Electronix shipped that should sound pretty decent for your $350 or under budget, and if you decide to add a single sub later, you can put the rear speakers on hu power, and run the ch.3,and4 mono on the amp to run the sub,no problem for an approx 400 rms 10/12.That should sound pretty clean, and loud enough for the money..just my 0.02cents

mrivera78

Both are Junk, unless you go OLD SCHOOL/90s versions in those brands.JL JX 360/4 gone up to like $169 shipped since I last looked, prices have gone up pretty recently, but still a nice amp for the money, and needs a 4ga kit,in which still can be had as well as all ive mentioned within the $350 budget.Keep in mind..go cheap ..expect cheap, and if you decide to sell that amp later on, you can move it fairly easy.

Always, but at an extra expense. You can utilize your HU just fine..nothing wrong with it.If you ever want to beef up your voltage output, its easy to add a preamp eq,or external xover.Nice Price on the amp!!

To me, its worth it,and especially to those that compete, very necessary for the SQ guys(4v or better) ,and for SPL guys.but that is up to you..its an all different level when you get into those categories,as everything becomes more expensive, and dedication to your system..but your hu is just fine

ok so heres my update....if you read my first post you will know my situation/circumstances and the limitations of my original upgrade plan.
original plan...4 inside speakers with good base plus an amp to hook up to my pioneer HU

what actually happened:
4 polk audio dxi650($80 for all 4 at bestbuy)
jl audio jx360/4 amp
kenwood kdc797 HU 4volt
jl audio CP108LG-W3v3 8"sub/box(1/4" space between the box and the strut bar)
jl audio jx500/1d amp

tomorrow I will be tuning it with a multimeter and test tone cd

built an amp rack...nothing to fancy. I ended up drilling it directly to the strut brace. the box barely fit behind strut bar. I did a lot of trunk trim modification to fit the box in
sounds really good right now with the gains turned down low...bass hits very hard, sounds like a bigger sub
